Few players have been more polarising than Theo Hernandez this season, but the AC Milan star still has 10 reasons in his favour for renewing.
During this season, the Frenchman’s departure has seemed like an increasingly more inevitable fate waiting to happen. However, the game against Udinese last week has flipped the narrative, and now, there is a chance that he could stay.

The chance is slim, but it has certainly caused a bit of a rethink, and the Frenchman himself has even turned down offers to leave the club for big money already, showing where his head is at. So today, Sportitalia (via Milan News) have compiled 10 reasons why he should, or better yet might stay.
It starts rather simply, with the first reason being that the club cannot afford to replace him with a better player, partnered with the fact that, despite his faults, there are few better options. Number two follows the same logic: he is worth more than his current value – believed to be €30 million.
Following that, the contract is looked at. Milan could A) get the benefits of the growth decree with a renewal, and B) worse value contracts have been handed out without second thought, so why deny Theo an arguably deserved raise?
From an image perspective, parting with the left-back makes the Rossoneri a less attractive project for new players and a new head coach, for number five. Six, then, is regarding his own wishes to stay, which are matched by his wife, more so after the birth of their second child together.
Coming in at number seven is the chance to ‘repute the bias against Paolo Maldini’ by resigning one of the Italian’s favourite signings and players. Additionally, it would leave the club without the ‘Theao’ dynamic, which is often so brilliant.
Nine is about the mental help it will give Theo as a player and man, a sign of faith and trust, which could help his mental situation, which has reportedly been an issue. Finally, the club need a ‘true captain’ and Theo can be that, empowered by a renewal.
I will always support this great player, no matter what happens in the end. He is so dynamic and athletic with speed, dribbling and scoring ability. I want him to wear the Milan captain’s armband again and become the legend he deserves to be.Football has changed as the rich teams are the protagonists and the average teams simply participate in the competitions and sometimes have a good run. I’m tired of mediocre players. The management must build a strong roster so that there is also the corresponding competition between our players. Theo is teh best player Milan will ever be able to get for teh LB position. Just sign a deputy for next season, so he doesn’t have to get overworked like he has for the past couple of seasons. Any player without a backup will start to get drained for energy and motivation…
Dude doesn’t play defense, is totally selfish in possession and most of all is more concerned with arguing over petty fouls than pls the fking game. Theo can take his talents elsewhere or resign for whatever Bellanova makes but nothing close to the 5M he wants.
Literally Emerson (who everyone claims is the worst fb in history) has better defensive stats than Theo
Go see how many games he played. He can improve his all arround game when our midfield is reinforced. He will also be fresher if they have an adequate substitute, so he could have more gas in the tank for the games he plays in to cover his defensive duties better.

So much trash is written in the media today that you even wonder who is writing this stuff.
So the player has a “mental situation” but apparently he is a true captain material?
Same player who apparently can’t function unless his proverbial surrogate father Paolo is there to hold his hand is supposed to be the leader of men, when he can’t even lead himself.
Also, Theo doesn’t deserve a raise. He already got one when he signed his last renewal and since then he has been playing worse year after year, not to mention playing a big role in sabotaging Milan season this year.
He can stay for the same money, plus bonuses related to performance and professionalism.
When it comes to the captains armband, as Allegri famously once said: if he wants the captain’s armband, he must buy one and play with it in the street.
Any project where Theo and Leao are the leaders and captains you can flush it down the toilet even before you started. We saw how it looks with them as leaders this season. Just stick to running fast on the counter attacks. Nothing more.
I’ll put the mental state of the players down to a lack of clear direction from the top brass. With so much uncertainty around the leadership players are bound to absorb all that negative energy which manifest in their game. What Milan needs is stability, which will inevitably come from a credible SD and coach. If this is in place and clear signals about the direction the team is taking, the players will start believing in the project and this will translate to their game as well. For this reason I believe Theo needs a renewal if and only if management gives clear signals about the project and not this hit and miss approach of this season. Tare and Max/Sarri will give credibility to the project. Not that Max is my favorite but he will command some respect in the dressing room. We do not need a De Zerbi or a Fabregas at this point.

Nobody is more responsible for this poor season than Theo. He has been our worst defender by a long stretch. Nobody is responsible for more conceded goals this season.
Since he has been here he has been the most undisciplined and selfish player on the team.
He sets an absolute terrible example for the rest of the club. Just this season you have the cooling break incident, the Fiorentina game where he gives away a penalty, then disobeys the coaches orders to selfishly steal a penalty away from the team’s designated penalty taker (and misses of course) an example that was quickly followed by Tomori and Abraham. Then gets a 2 match suspension for arguing with the ref after the match. All while wearing the captain’s armband.
He crashed us out of the Champions League getting sent off for 2 yellows, one for needlessly grabbing a player and throwing him to the ground and another for diving which he constantly does.
Then there is his overall lack of effort and complete disinterest in playing any kind of defense.
But hey, he’ll score a great goal once every ten games so I guess that makes up for everything negative that he does the rest of the time.

Seriously. How can you do all those things in one season and still keep getting picked for almost every match.
Lack of a decent deputy has emboldened him to be this selfish.
Sell Theo. We don’t have the leadership in the squad to accommodate such an awful attitude. He undermines the team as a whole more often than not, and that is more important than his talent.
Yes, on his best days, he is a very good player, even briliant in attack.
But on most days, his weak defense is a liability.
The biggest issue is his attitude. Let’s count how many times he undermined the group this year. At least a dozen times, often in important matches.
It’s time to sell Theo and move on.
He hasn’t earned the right to be captain, but a better left back will be hard to find.
Why would a better LB be hard to find? When people make statements like this they are strictly talking about his offensive abilities. And we are talking about a DEFENSIVE BACK… You might want to consider defense when talking about a DEFENSIVE BACK. It would be hard not to find a better defensive back than Theo.

It’s Theo. Not the ownership and management who tore down foundations in just 3 seasons with their incompetency, egocentrism and narcissism.
It takes two to tango though, and I don’t really believe he wants to sign an extension, I think he’d rather be a free agent and leave with his ability to choose his next club.
Even if we decide to sell, I don’t think it would be worth it for him to leave this summer after an uncharacteristically poor campaign rather than bounce back in his exit year. Yes he’ll make the right noises like Kessie and everyone else who left for nothing but I don’t expect any extension.
He’s got enough self confidence to back himself to do well next season to earn big money from a top team in a year’s time; I think we have to make the most of that year and do the succession planning

He should only stay if we are going to continue with a back 3. Too much of a defensive liability to play in a back 4.

Slow news day so an obligatory Theo article to get the machine going. Anyways, all indications seem to point to him going to Madrid imo. They would do well with him in the team esp based on how they lacked an outlet down the left vs Arsenal as well as the lack of world class options available currently (Garcia isn’t cutting it and Alaba is getting old/not the same profile). With Davies having a torn ACL I think that paves the way for a move by Real. Theo is still top 5 left back in the world regardless of what people make of his form this season. Plus he’s incredibly resilient and resistant to injuries given the vast quantities of gAmes he plays for club and country. That point never gets highlighted enough as it’s a real deal breaker. The club provide no proper alternative for him off the bench (we’ve seen that for many years now..), so he HAS to play, get tired and then fan trash him. 🤷♂️
