The Sun: Burnley join Milan in race for Ligue 1 starlet and look to conclude €16.6m deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been joined by Burnley in the race to land Strasbourg starlet Mohamed Simakan in January, a report claims.

Heading into the final day of the window it seemed certain that the Rossoneri would welcome a new centre-back, but after intense links with Simakan throughout the day – plus other targets – nobody ended up arriving.

We conducted an exclusive interview with Pietro Mazzara of MilanNews, who revealed that Elliott Management had in fact sanctioned an improved bid, but the management chose not to raise their offer.

According to The Sun, Premier League side Burnley are now also keen on landing the 20-year-old defender and are pushing to secure a £15m deal, which would be equal to around €16.6m at the current rate.

Calciomercato.com did report earlier today that Milan are still in the market for a defender and Simakan is still on the list of targets, but is seemingly behind Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina and possibly even Schalke’s Ozan Kabak.
