MN: Theo Hernandez looking to put a bad start to 2023 behind him vs. Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

Tomorrow night in Saudi Arabia AC Milan will compete for a trophy that they haven’t won since 2016, namely the Supercoppa Italiana against Inter.

MilanNews recall how it was Doha that was the venue for that particular game where Milan managed to prevail over Juventus on penalties thanks to Mario Pasalic’s decisive spot kick. Pioli’s team face another big rival this time around in Inter, and he will need his key performers to be at the top of their game.

Theo Hernandez will be part of the starting line-up and he will be looking to brush off the disappointment of the last game he played with a trophy at stake, specifically the World Cup final which also took place in the Middle East.

The full-back was one of the best players at the Qatari World Cup, which however ended with a defeat against Argentina on penalties, but since returning to Italy he looks to have suffered from fatigue, both from a physical and mental point of view.

In the game against Lecce on Saturday, the French full-back was replaced for the first time this season at half-time, probably also in view of the tough match against Inter. The one against the Nerazzurri will be the tenth derby for Theo Hernandez since joining, though he has never scored a goal or provided an assist to his team-mates in previous meetings.

He has 22 goals with the Milan shirt and almost thirty overall assists, so the Diavolo in such a delicate and important derby will certainly need the contribution of an absolute champion. The desire to restore a 2023 that started off on the wrong foot is there.
