Theo Hernandez jokes about goal and claims Milan are returning to their best

By Oliver Fisher -

Theo Hernandez has joked that he is counting the first goal as his own after AC Milan beat top four rivals Atalanta 2-0 at San Siro tonight.

It was a big game in front of another sell-out crowd against a local rival under the lights and Milan responded to the occasion in the perfect way with another excellent defensive display and a comfortable victory in the end.

The Rossoneri took the lead in the 26th minute as a ball into Giroud in the box was masterfully headed backwards into the path of Theo Hernandez, who could not have hit his volley any sweeter as it cannoned off the post, hit Musso’s back and rebounded in for an own-goal. Junior Messias would add a second late on to seal the three points.

Theo was interviewed by DAZN immediately after the game to reflect on what was another improved performance from the team and a massive three points in the top four race, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“We went through a complicated period, but now we are returning to being the Milan we were before,” he said.

“For me the goal is mine (laughs). I saw that I could shoot and it was a good goal.”

On Maignan, he added: “We’ve wanted him with us for a long time, he played a great game. Then there’s the Champions League but first we have to think about Fiorentina.”
