Theo Hernandez discusses supercar comparisons and playing with Mbappe

By Oliver Fisher -

Theo Hernandez is disappointed he will not get the chance to play against his AC Milan team-mate Ismael Bennacer at the World Cup in Qatar.

Theo is certainly having a positive tournament so far as he has two assists to his name, having come off the bench in the first game against Australia following the knee ligament injury his brother sustained, setting up Adrien Rabiot for the equaliser, and then teeing up Kylian Mbappe in France’s win over Denmark.

Given the severity of Lucas Hernandez’s injury it means that the former Real Madrid man may well have a starting spot for the rest of the tournament, with the hope being that he continues to impress on the biggest stage.

The left-back spoke at a press conference that Les Bleus put on as part of their training retreat in Qatar, speaking of his growth at international level, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“They compared me to a Super Car? Well, if it’s a Ferrari, that’s better,” he began.

On Mbappe and Rabiot, who he provided assists to: “Playing with Kylian and Adrien is a pleasure. I’m proud to have been called up and would like to play in the next match too, but it’s the coach’s choice.”

On his brother’s injury: “Very bad news, it’s not easy with such a long injury. I talk to him every day, now Lucas tells me we have to win the cup. He and I are different, I attack more, while he is better at defending.”

On playing in a more advanced role: “No, I love playing left-back.”

On Bennacer: “He’s on vacation now, but I wish he was here to play against him.”

On Mbappe: “It’s easier to play football with him, we get along very well. Who is fastest? He goes very fast… But the team also includes Ousmane Dembélé, Coman and others. It’s a good race.”
