Theo Hernandez thanks three key figures for his development and sets target for season

Theo Hernandez has revealed that he still gets advice from director Paolo Maldini, and stressed that he and his team-mates believe the second star is within reach this season.

Theo is back after suffering an injury with the French national team and his impact on the side can be clearly seen given that he is one of the best in his position in the world of football, and now he will be able to help the team in what is a chaotic schedule up until the World Cup break.

Milan face the difficult task of having to fight on three fronts this season as the expectation is another battle for the Scudetto while also reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, and ending a Coppa Italia drought which is approaching 20 years would also be welcome.

Theo was interviewed by Sky (via MilanNews) at the 2022 Gran Gala del Calcio awards in which he was named in the team of the year, and he commented on last season’s Scudetto victory during which his goal against Atalanta was crucial.

“Until the last game we didn’t know if we could win. It was a beautiful goal, we went 2-0 up,” he said.

If the goal against Atalanta is the best of his career: “Yes, it can be, but I hope to score more.”

On the national team: “Yes, I’ve wanted to go to the national team for a long time. I’m giving my all to go to the World Cup. We have a very strong team and we want to get to the end.”

On the Scudetto battle and the second star: “I believe in it. It’s a difficult season, there are many clubs nearby and we have to do what we know and then let’s see what happens.”

On the Champions League: “We have more maturity, we are young but now we have to work every day. We have two important Champions League matches and then we’ll see.”

On his bond with Milan: “From day one people loved me and that’s what I like. I do what I know: play and make the Milan fans happy.”

On being the best in his role: “I don’t know that, I’m working every day and I do what the coach asks me. I don’t know what will happen next.”

On the group: “We are a young team, we have to work hard to reach the maximum at the end of the season and win the second star.”

On Maldini: “He tells me I’m still young, I still have to improve. There are days when I talk to him and he tells me what to do.”

Theo spoke more about the goal he scored against Atalanta, which was crowned the best of last season.

“I remember the roar, I am proud of the award. I want to make the Milan fans happy,” he said.

On who helped him the most to free his attacking spirit: “The coach, from day one. I grew up. Now I am what I am thanks to the coach, to Paolo and to Massara, thanks.”
