GdS: Theo informs Milan of desire to leave – price set with agent given mandate

Theo Hernandez will not remain at AC Milan beyond this summer, with a sale now being evaluated by all parties involved.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the picture after Thursday’s meeting at Casa Milan between sporting director Igli Tare and agent Manuel Garcia Quillon is clearer: Theo’s chances of renewing are now zero.

His Rossoneri story ended on Wednesday 14 May, on the night of the Coppa Italia final lost in Rome against Bologna. There could have been a better ending and instead, barring any surprises, the Frenchman will close out his Milan experience with 262 appearances and 34 goals.

Theo pushes to leave

It was the player himself who made it known that at this moment his will is to try a new adventure elsewhere. Also because the gap between the offer and the demands for a contract extension is enormous. Indeed, it is unbridgeable.

Given the disappointing performance of 2024-25, Milan offered Theo €4m net per year, a lower salary than the current one (€4.5m). Since the first talks last autumn, the former Real Madrid man has been asking for €8m, which would make him the highest paid player in the squad.

There was a rapprochement at the end of 2024, coinciding with the win in Madrid against Real, but the possibility of reaching the white smoke was never concrete. Now the parties are looking for a way to part peacefully.

The Diavolo said they were willing to keep him until his contract expires and then lose him for free because they know that the player would still give his all, determined to play a super season before the World Cup.

Theo, however, knows what he would face, especially on an environmental level without a renewal, and has given Quillon the mandate to sound out the market. The summit at Casa Milan was useful for discussing the price of the player’s contract, starting from two parameters.

The first: the Frenchman has 12 months left until his contract expires, a condition underlined by Quillon to set the lowest possible figure. The second: in the winter transfer window Como offered up €40m to buy him.

Saudi doubts

This is why Quillon is talking to clubs, or rather top clubs, who might be interested in a left-back. Milan have no objections to Italian clubs, as long as the offer is fair.

Hernandez already has an offer from Al Hilal, who would like him by June 10 to play in the Club World Cup, and are willing to give him a three-year contract worth €18m net per season. For Milan, the offer would be around €20m.

However, nothing official has arrived and Quillon has only hinted at the Saudi possibility, announcing the imminent visit of a trusted intermediary of president Fahad bin Nafel, who is the number one at Al Hilal.

In reality, however, the transfer to Riyadh does not fully convince the player who does not seem inclined to sign any time soon, thus precluding the possibility of going to a big European club in July or August.

The Arab pressure from tomorrow onwards could increase in coincidence with the choice of the new coach of Al-Hilal. Milan intend to let their full-back leave only in the presence of a suitable offer even if his purchase price, the €20m paid to Real in 2019, has been almost completely paid off.

Then of course he would have to be replaced, an easy task considering his performance last season, but much more complicated analysing what he has done in previous years. Obtaining a high figure would be important to generate a nest egg to invest in the inevitable reconstruction of the team.

  1. He is only 27 and has had a bad season because he’s been tired.

Still made 5 goals and 6 assists in 49 games.
Udogie has 1 assist in 25 games.

Well… TBF, defender’s main job is to… defend! You’re looking at offensive stats here.

      1. Yep that’s the problem – Theo’s never been a great defender at the best of times. Take away his offensive prowess (and add a side order of attitude) and he’s just a liability…

        1. When he covered in the centre 2 seasons ago under Pioli he was near perfect.

          He can defend

        2. I think you sleep when you start writing comment’s, saying Theo is a liability is too much smoke.
You should go back and see his games against big teams.

      2. It’s not 1990, in successful teams everyone attacks and everyone defends. Madrid haven’t just signed Alexander-Arnold for his defensive skills.

        1. Everyone defends? LOL. Exactly the problem with Milan. Theo & Leao doesn’t do that. That’s why we finished in the midtable and dropped out early in UCL.

    2. His bad season is still far better than many other players best season lol. This people don’t know what they have.

    3. Udogie is the only other defender to compare him to? Lol. My money is on him going somewhere else and continuing to disappoint. His issues have been evident since he arrived, it’s just that last season they manifested themselves to their greatest extent. Overall, not a bad player, but also not worth 8M per season in that position. Sorry.

    4. Yeah let him stay so Parma Cagliari Atalanta Bologna can continue to exploit him next season

Seriously most of you dont watch games at all, why are you pretending to be fans?

  2. Hernandez will be a bargain for someone picking him up and giving him a full summer’s rest.

But what is his market? I can’t see Chelsea, Barca, Man City, Arsenal, Bayern, PSG going for him.

    Liverpool has spent huge already.

Man Utd? Would be a waste.

  3. The truth is that Theo cannot defend well. He is the one that ruined this season. But I would not blame him at all because management was supposed to get an assistant for him when it was becoming obvious that he was showing signs of tiredness and being overused .Instead our bald head management kept on using him until he started making us lose points. And this is where our issues this season emanated from. I really love him to be a Milan legend but now ,looks like its not possible.

  4. I will rather sell leao than to sell this guy
You will never know what u have till u lose them
How can theo make a long run to support leao and he will give away possession, and everybody wants Theo to fly 🕊️🕊️🕊️ back and cover his position, just sell leao u and rest Theo for a month u will see the best of Theo
See PSG last 9it were pressing higher up the pitch, can leao do that?
Let there be proper assessment before we let go of any player this window
I remember Milan going for khalavella back then for just 14m
We don’t have hungry attackers ,I don’t u guys have closely watch Milan how leao drags this team and yet he dose carry the responsibility of the a leader

    3 4 2
    Or 3 4 3
Keep jovic and if possible Felix also
    Sell leao

  6. Why is everyone arguing about his defensive skill set? He’s not your regular defensive fullback. He never was meant for that role. There’s not a single team in this world that plays both fullbacks either ultra attacking or defending. It’s always a balance, one side is attacking and the other defensive. In our case, our left flanks was offensive and the right one defensive (at least it was supposed to be). Everyone is shouting Theo sucks at defending but at the same time argue how Frimpong was a steal for Liverpool. Frimpong and Alexander-Arnold are basically same type of attacking wingback as Theo.

  7. I don’t care what he did and how he played. If a player wants to leave why even bother convincing him to stay? Addio 👋🏻

  8. Theos time at Milan is over. Regardless how or who is responsible, he can not be in this team. Poor defending, attitude, and his antics. Refs have it out for him. A defender who dives regularely is not what teams want.

For those wanting Theo of years past, notice no big teams have come asking for him. A Saudi club and Como. That right there is a sign what everyone thinks of him.

It’s Sad as he could have been a legend.

  9. Guys, did anyone watch the UCL final last night? I can’t find the score anywhere… Can someone help me and say the score? Was there any goal in regular time? Really struggling here to know who won…

    1. No tf he does not you class clown🤦‍♂️ he’s barely worthy of what he gets now after his performances and attitude. In no way is he deserving of doubling his contract. Sit down

  10. Hilarious AGAIN to see so many so called fans turn on Theo. Just a year ago he was top 3 in his position. Ya he has a poor season – BUT guess what – so did the whole team! 2 coaches in one season, 2 systems, undecided contract, etc…not excuses just facts. He will be fine with Max AND he wants to stay. FOOLISH to sell him for a low amount (30M). Make him a reasonable offer and give him the opportunity to redeem himself like so many others need to do. We give trash players like Chuk, Musah, Emerson etc….who have done NOTHING – a break but we won’t with Theo??? STUPID
