Reports: Theo’s Milan exit will be completed next week as Al-Hilal exit Club World Cup

AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez will head to Al-Hilal to join Simone Inzaghi this summer, with further confirmation that the deal is done.

The Theo to Saudi Arabia saga has lasted far longer than most would have imagined it to. Initially, the defender said no to the deal, but through a lack of other interest and Inzaghi’s persistence, the deal turned on its head.

At the end of June, Theo made his decision known to the management of Milan, and the final details of a deal have been discussed since then to finalise negotiations after the Club World Cup ended.

Last night, Inzaghi’s team were knocked out, and thus, a deal was expected to be finished shortly after.

Confirmation of the end

This afternoon, Matteo Moretto confirmed that the deal had been completed on his X account, via @Garante_Il, replying to a question about the deal’s status with a simple ‘it’s done’. Though there have been no announcements just yet.

Imaginably, everything will move rather quickly from here with the deal now completed, so this may be the final few days of Theo officially with the Rossoneri. With him being given an extended leave, you can already question whether he still remains a Milan player right now.

Fabrizio Romano (via @Garante_Il again) also stated as much, suggesting that all parties are ready to complete the ‘formal steps’ next week. Everything has already been accepted, so it is just a case of formalities now.

  1. Sad waste of a great career to date – hopefully he’ll be back in Europe in a year or two, just hopefully not at another Serie A team.

  2. such a world class LB, its World Cup year and no one in Europe wants him.

27 years old and going to Saudi but people here think he’s still good lmao

  3. His bro got a red card minutes after coming on. With a bit more dedication and cool heads both bros could have performed at top levels for many years to come.

  4. Maybe Pavlovic does Gvardiol and switches to LB (he likes to carry the ball and is quite fast)?

We just keep Thiaw and take Leoni and then RB: Dodo/Vanderson/Wesley…

  5. There goes a good solid 8-10 goal contributions per season…as a defender. Wish him all the best. He’s just tired and needs a break. Players are being handled well at the club. Y’all gonna learn

    1. This is my concern too. We do seem to be addressing last year’s issues but at the same time we’re losing two of our most forward thinking players and contributors. If we’re asking the front three to create and score everything themselves, I’m a bit worried about our prospects. They’re going to need to pull some miracles out of the mercato bag with incoming full backs, because those are two gaping holes at the moment.

  6. Maybe he’ll find himself again. I doubt we’ll have a better fullback fullback a while, but then again, what’s the point in having a really good player who plays t 40% of his potential?

    1. I mean, you can’t buy everyone and you’d assume if Truffert and Tare were interested in each other Rennes might have held out for a more than the very low amount they seem to have gotten for him.

Truffert and MdC we don’t seem to have moved for but you have to assume there’s a shortlist somewhere of players we’re talking to and prioritising for those positions.

People talking about Udogie, I don’t see that as either financially feasible or that the player would want the move.

  7. Udogie only solid replacement rn. For right back we CANNOT go for Dodo. Dodo DOES NOT CUT IT. Might as well go for free agent Calabria in this instance.

  8. There is a lot of talk about his goals and games forward, but I would say that they have to find a player who will play defense! We had too many misses last season. I don’t think none of those who are left can be an adequate solution.

  9. Don’t cry too loud for him, if he would be that good, he wouldn’t be going to Saudi in his prime time. No top club wanted him, even with promo price tag. This tells something.

Solid, all-round left back will fill gap after him in no time.
