It stems from when Paolo Maldini left the club, someone who was pivotal to the defender’s arrival. When he was sacked, the left-back noticeably dipped in form. So, his latest story, wearing a Maldini shirt, is certainly something.
Whether it is a message or just merely a coincidence, it has gotten the Diavolo talking once again about Theo. Maybe that could have been the aim too, to stay in memories. Who knows?

He was pretty awful last season and also showcased some unprofessional behavior but the point here is Maldini should never have been sacked to begin with as it destabilized a well oiled project with less money and lower wages that got us a scudetto and a cl semi. Maldini was instrumental in bringing in Theo who otherwise would have joined Napoli. If our stubborn owner actually had realized the impact of Maldini and ignored he had been a bit openmouthed after we lost that cl semi final and accepted we should have only bought a few players a bit more expensive than those we got at that time this teams last years would have been far more cohesive and we could have build on the foundation that had already been laid by the previous management. Instead Cardinale wanted his ultimate say and put his fingerprint on everything when we instead should have just done a few adjustment here and there. Besides of that when Theo played his best for us he was undoubtedly a top 3 attacking left back in the world even if his defensive skills maybe was more mediocre than worldclass.
Anyways both are gone now but lets hope and demand that the current ownership can top m&m’s work and it can’t happen fast enough as up until now they have been a huge joke and disgrace in most fans views.

Environment at Milan and poor judgement calls aside, Theo let his form slip as you said. Maybe he wasn’t mentally and psychologically strong enough not to let Paolo’s dismissal affect him. I keep referencing this as an example, but Paolo didn’t crumble after Capello and Sacchi left.
Well even though I do reckon that Theo when on his best of form has been a world class offensive back considering that the french lb is the most scoring lb if not defender in the history of the club I do believe that Maldini was/is far more complete both as a player but also on psychological level but I do recall Theo saying when he left AC Milan that it wasn’t the same project he bought into as when he left us so I would view it more in the light of that but i do nevertheless fully understand what you are saying here ACM1899 so its not that I completely disagree with that assessment of yours. When Maldini left it was pretty clear though that a lot of our players was in disbelief that he had been sacked after the cl semis and in the manner it happened so clearly it caused some issues within the group of players even if some handled it better than others.. personally I think Maldini was to a large extent the glue that kept it all together.

Maldini did great things. But the facts show that he was unable to see past his own influence on players and was surprised not once but three times when players left for more money instead of staying to play for him and AC Milan.

Oddly enough, Theo was never able to live up to the professionalism of his idol. Because one player remained a consummate professional, and carried on in the same way after his mentors left. Whereas the other one crumbled after his mentor left and started pointing fingers, instead of looking at himself in the mirror.

It wasn’t Maldini if that’s what you are getting at. Maldini was sacked 2 years ago now after the team finished 4th (really 5th but Juventus had points deducted). So the team actually improved in the first season under new management.

Second season was a disaster( we finished 5th in football) 4th on the table because of the deduction of Juves points. The third season was the 8th placed finished. No your timeline is off dude. Milan won the Scudetto, then finished 5th (4th). That’s when Maldini was sacked. Then they finished 2nd. Then last season 8th.
Not that i wanna butt into your two apparent feud here then even when he got sacked we reached the cl semi finals and the club earned roughly 100 mil that year on the grounds of that work and then Maldini had the audacity to say after that semi final loss in a direct tv interview right after the match that Milan needed to invest some more cash to make the final leap. That was what got him fired. The fact that Juventus got 4rth on paper but ended up at 5th was done in agreement with the Italian FIGC because if they didn’t they was bound to be punished more severely as they clearly had been fraudulent in how they had spend far more than they was allowed to do so the often used argument of us getting lucky and ending up qualifying for cl doesn’t really hold up in my book as they had given themselves an advantage in buying expensive players and over paying them which we clearly didn’t do at that point and we was far more severely punished as we both missed Europa league and ended up under administration when we overspend while under the ownership of Li younghong in 2017. Juve was the team that got lucky here not us so basically Maldini was sacked for telling the truth.

DO you know how much money they gave up there? Well over a hundred million they could have used to replace them if it was handled properly.

Maldini made plenty of mistakes that would have gotten him sacked by any club but letting our best players leave for free was the most damaging.
So you can certainly criticize the current management, but at least they are not letting our best players leave for free anymore.
The reason why they wasn’t renewed was that he should deal with those above him, do you seriously not think that he didn’t try to renew them but he had to skimper around for pennies to renew and ask for more allowance. Several of those players you mentioned was also loans and even two free transfers so again he had far more limitations but created the groundworks for financial success by qualifying for cl and vastly improving the club and even winning a scudetto and reaching a cl semi final that further gained the club money and even helped the club improve its advertisement deals. Yes he was horrible, RedBird is riding on the back of his and Elliot managements work.
Again, that’s why you don’t let players go into the final year of their contract. Then you have no leverage. You either renew them before they get into the final year or you sell them if they will not renew. Most SD’s know this. Maldini did not , and he did not learn from his mistakes and made them over and over again. That’s what cost him his job.
That and the fact that he went behind the coach’s back and tried to get Pioli sacked directly after winning the team a Scudetto.

This guy is a completely lost. Maldini asked to increase the budget for wages, to circumvent their 4 million euro limit per season and more autonomy. All which were denied. He had to fight to bring Ibra back. Had to fight to buy Tonali, Bennacer, Krunic, Theo and Giroud. All players the “scout and his algorithm buddy Bean” didn’t want at the club.
Look at how Furliani, who controlled the financial parameters Maldini could work with, influenced the rest of people in management as well and Redbird operated since…
They kept Mike after refusing a transfer the player asked them to accept and will try to negotiate an extension in his last year..is this Maldini’s choice? They also took his extension offer they agreed to off the table.
They spent more on a new injury prone left back than it would have cost to renew Theo.
The Taremi transfer, they negotiated with someone who wasn’t even his agent.
Thuram…refused to buy a proper striker after Ibra left and Giroud started alowing down even more.
There are countless examples of post Maldini incompetence and they were asking him to answer to them. Which he refused because as we have seen, they do shady business and don’t operate in a respectable manner with players or other clubs. He was told to keep negotiating until the end. They leave everything to the last minute even to this day to try to pressure people into cutting back on their financial demands.
Never said he was infallible though as non are in life.

This your argument about letting players go for free is a broken record — and more accurately a well choreographed campaign to make Maldini the fall guy.
First, Gazidis was the man controlling the purse at that period, just as Forolani is doing now. The good thing is Gazidis has been man enough to admit that the decisions were his based on Elliott’s demands, than Maldini’s.
Now let’s take each player. Hakan was let go for just 500k. Apparently, the management felt if they yielded, it could encourage other players to make demands too. It’s important to point out that Hakan was signed by Fassone & Mirabelli under Yong Li. His contrast was already running out when Maldini came and the believe was renewing these guys won’t be difficult. There was no hint of a problem. Then management put a cap of wages. Then there was the COVID-19 issue. By then Hakan’s contract was in its last year.
Same scenario with Donnarumma. Worse was this was an academy product and you’ll expect better from him. As a matter of fact, his older brother Antonio was signed just to appease him, but Donnarumma had Raiola as his agent — probably the worst shark in the business until his death. The only was Donna could have been sold under the circumstances was as soon as Maldini came onboard. Now, who would have agreed to that or thought it was logical to sell the best young goalkeeper talent in the world. In spite of the fact that Milan signed his brother, he and Raiola made outrageous demands.
They could have agreed a new deal and get sold, but Gazidis and Elliot were taking chances — because the terms for the renewal demands were too high. There was no guarantee that PSG would buy.
Kessie was a total ass. He was also a Fasso-belli signing. By the time he went to the Olympics and he said he would resolve everything, he was already in his last year. Milan tried to sell him in January, but he refused to go to Tottenham.
So, please stop bringing up these arguments.

He had a dream and wanted to be part of the first squad after a season. What did Milan or rather Pioli do when he needed a deputy for Theo? He overlooked the academy and Dalot was brought in. At the end of the season, Dalot returned to Man U. Kerkez thought he would get his chance. Again Pioli refused to call him up, instead asking for a new recruitment and that was how Ballo-Toure became a Milan player. Naturally, Kerkez demanded to leave and we were told that crap that Kerkez wanted to be a starter ahead of Theo!

Some people are born with all the talent, but just don’t have the drive on them. Compare Ronaldo’s career to Balotelli’s. Unfortunately, I think Theo is more of a Balotelli than a Ronaldo. Pioli himself said he had to focus on Theo every training session, as otherwise he wasn’t really motivated, and this happened already when Maldini was here. The guy is a natural athlete; no other thing can explain his drop in speed and stamina. Besides, what kind of adult needs another adult near him to behave properly?
Theo, the milanesta will always be grateful for what you achieved here with us. It’s unfortunate how things ended, but let’s hope it’s for the better.
