Thiaw says Milan are ‘ready’ for Napoli and defend more ‘as a unit’ under Fonseca

Ahead of the game between AC Milan and Napoli this evening, Malick Thiaw spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the situation, having got some unexpected additional rest.

Milan’s game against Bologna, which was initially scheduled for Saturday evening, was controversially postponed and the Rossoneri thus got a few days more rest ahead of tonight’s clash. Having said that, Paulo Fonseca made it very clear that they would have wanted to play the game instead.

Speaking to DAZN ahead of the game, as cited by MilanNews, Thiaw shared his thoughts on the game and what has changed defensively under Fonseca. The German is playing from start tonight alongside Strahinja Pavlovic, with Fikayo Tomori on the bench.

On the game…

“We are ready, we had more days to prepare for the match against Napoli, after the postponement of the match against Bologna. I will do everything to stop Lukaku.”

On how the way of defending has changed, compared to Pioli…

“We defend more as a unit rather than man-to-man, we try to send the opponent to one side.”

Which way of defending do you prefer?

“I like working under Fonseca.”

Tonight’s game is almost a must-win for Milan to avoid slipping down the standings, or rather for the Partenopei to create an even bigger gap. The Bologna postponement has made things complicated in that sense, even if there is a game to be played eventually.

  1. The same defence that got a clean sheet against Udinese. I COUNT ON YOU BOY. Then Leao and Puli with the goals in the 60th min.
