Thiaw names his three main strengths and reacts to Milan move: “I still don’t believe it”

New signing Malick Thiaw has revealed that he is still in disbelief about the fact that he has signed for AC Milan.

The news of an agreement first broke after Milan’s game against Bologna on Saturday, with Stefano Pioli even sharing his thoughts on the player, and then Thiaw arrived in Italy before undergoing the medical tests and signing his contract with the club earlier this week.

After the departure of Alessio Romagnoli, Milan have been in the market for a centre-back all summer and they have got a man that has been intensely linked before given the speculation that a move could have materialised back in January.

Thiaw was interviewed by Milan TV about his arrival in Italy and spoke about his emotions after having finally achieved a move that was talked about for months.

“It’s incredible, I still don’t believe it. This is my first time here and it’s great. I am really very happy and excited. As soon as the call came I told my parents. This is a great opportunity for me and I am very happy to be here,” he said (via MilanNews).

On the Italian league: “In Serie A there are excellent teams that do well in the Champions League as well. I follow Serie A and sometimes I choose Milan on the Playstation.”

On the Bundesliga: “In Germany the game is very tactical and you have to follow the coach’s instructions. I always give 100% and I put passion into it. When you go out on the pitch you have to give 100%, you have no other choice.”

On his idol: “My idol was Yaya Toure because I was also a midfielder. I think I’m good at cover, dogfighting and I’m pretty fast. These are my strengths.”

On the experience at Schalke 04: “I trained for a few months with the first team and it went well, it wasn’t difficult because I have always trained hard. There is a lot of difference even in the stadiums, from one day to the next you play in front of 60 thousand people, the difference is certainly there but I have improved.

On AC Milan’s season: “I followed the whole season, especially in winter because there was already contact with Milan. I tried to follow every match, what happened is incredible. Congratulations! I am very proud to be here and I hope to play and debut as soon as possible.”
