TMW: Fofana, Milenkovic, Ajer, Pezzella, Nastasic, Rudiger – the latest on Milan’s CB pursuit

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking to close a deal for Jens Petter Hauge of Bodo/Glimt, but attention must always be paid to the centre-back department.

According to TMW, the Rossoneri are desperate to secure a central defender to reinforce a department which is very stretched at the moment, but also another central midfielder is on the wish list.

Like so many clubs, the management must delicately make expenses and income coexist. The agreement with Lyon over Lucas Paqueta is very close, and once Houssem Aouar departs that deal should be pushed through.

Regarding centre-backs, here are some updates…

Wesley Fofana: To date the hottest name. He has a high valuation but not one that is considered completely out of range. In terms of age, role and cost, he represents the profile closest to what Milan’s technical project is at the moment.

Matija Nastasic: More experience, at a lower cost. Schalke 04 would release him on loan with option to buy, and he would return to Serie A eight years after leaving Fiorentina.

Nikola Milenkovic and German Pezzella: If they could, Milan would bet on one of these two. The impression is that the management would prefer the former, while Pioli would like the latter. Fiorentina, however, don’t want to sell.

The other names: Celtic has long since closed the doors for Kristoffer Ajer, a player that Milan have always excluded from their list of targets despite reports suggesting otherwise.

Chelsea in recent days have proposed Antonio Rudiger, who they want to sell outright, a formula that is not popular in Italy this summer.
