TMW: Milan face transfer battle with Southampton to land highly-rated Italian youngster

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are battling Premier League side Southampton for the signature of Sassuolo starlet Gianluca Scamacca, according to a report.

Seriebnews.com were the first to report that Milan’s chief scout Geoffrey Moncada likes the look of Scamacca, who has 11 goals this season in all competitions on loan at Serie B side Ascoli from the Neroverdi.

Pietro Balzano Prota stated on January 31 that Milan held talks with the player’s entourage with the view to a summer move, after the excellent reports received by club scouts.

However, according to the latest from Tuttomercatoweb, it appears as though the Rossoneri are not alone in their pursuit of the talented centre-forward as Southampton have joined the hunt.

Southampton have apparently been sending scouts to Italy in order to watch the Italy U21 international in action as they look to prepare for another season in England’s top flight under Ralph Hassenhuttl.

It is worth noting that the 21-year-old has scored 20 goals in 35 appearances since making his debut at international level for Italy U18s.
