TMW: Milan fully focused on Maignan’s renewal as demands must be lowered

By Isak Möller -

Mike Maignan’s contract will expire in 2026 and AC Milan are already working on his renewal. The goalkeeper has been a key player since arriving from Lille in 2021 and now wants a significant pay rise, a report claims.

Maignan arrived to replace Gigio Donnarumma and few could have predicted the outcome. The Frenchman is now considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world, while the Italian has experienced a significant decline in quality.

Having renewed key players such as Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao, Maignan is now next in line for a well-deserved pay rise. However, as reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, the 28-year-old’s entourage has asked for a salary of €7-8m per year.

This is too high for Milan, but they have reassured the goalkeeper that the pay rise will reflect his status in the team. Hernandez earns €4m per year, for example, and Leao earns €5m. The feeling is that Maignan probably will end up somewhere around the latter figure.

As the report concludes, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are fully focused on the renewal of Maignan. They know it won’t be easy but that was also the case initially for Leao, so there is cautious optimism now as well.

  1. must be ? there is nothing that ‘must be’ , you fired the only person who actually could make his renewal , you can’t expect from moncada and juddah furlani for renewal with players like maignan, theo or leao , you fooled leao to sign renewal and imediately fired maldini, now you see how unhappy he is with everything in club, and it affect his games

  2. our new ‘directors’ can bring new talented players, but they will never be able to renew our world class players such as mike, theo or leao, they will all leave i am 100% sure

  3. They will sell them and what will be sad is that people won’t be upset they sold core player that would further destabilize project and continuity but will instead say “at least they are able to sell and generate money unlike some other manager we had”.

And that’s the problem with this new AC Milan.

  4. Theo and Leao at 24/25years age
Magic Mike at 28years age, there is big difference.
7m is minimum he should get unless, its better for Maignan to see other clubs where he can earn 10-15m easily.

  5. As usual, club is attempting to scam a top player. I would not lower my expectations if I Magic Mike. He is world class and can easily get 8-10 mil per season elsewhere. So why he should go down to 5 mil per season?

  6. Honestly, the hype is over for me regarding Mike. 7 million a year? Go back and check how many goals this season were directly his fault, and you’ll see this exceeds even average GK stats. He almost reminds from Onana from ManU.

His ability with the ball at his feet is great, really top notch, but a GK is first and foremost a shot stopper.
