TMW: Milan were one step away from €22m deal for Salzburg star – the current situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were one step away from signing Red Bull Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai in the January window, a report claims.

The Rossoneri continue to be linked with a summer move for Szoboszlai as speculation gets more and more intense regarding the arrival of Red Bull chief Ralf Rangnick as the club’s new manager.

We reported via our correspondent Vito Angele that Rangnick has already given a clear input: Szoboszlai is a concrete objective of his and Milan have already started contacts with Red Bull Salzburg.

According to Tuttomercatoweb though, sources close to the Rossoneri have revealed that the club were close to landing the 19-year-old in the recent winter window.

Milan found an agreement with the player and seemed very close to closing with the Austrian club as well, in a negotiation that occurred after it became apparent Milan had missed out on Dani Olmo, who ironically went to another Red Bull influenced club in Leipzig.

A timing problem derailed an operation that would have seen Szoboszlai join for around €22million in January, but the Diavolo’s interest is far from over. Interest from clubs in Germany, Spain and England as well as Napoli threatens to make things harder this time though, plus his valuation is around €25m.
