Tiemoue Bakayoko’s future is yet to be defined despite the fact that he seemed certain to leave AC Milan at the start of the summer. A breakthrough might be on the cards, though, as Monza are now interested.
Bakayoko was brought in by Milan on a two-year loan from Chelsea last summer and his first season with the club was a very disappointing one. Therefore, he has been linked with a departure all summer but it hasn’t materialised yet.
Milan are still looking for a midfielder on the market but the fact also remains that it has been tough to find a new destination for Bakayoko. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, after struggling to lock down other targets, Monza could focus on the Chelsea-owned midfielder.
The newly-promoted side, led by Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani, want strength as well as experience for the midfield and Bakayoko could be the one. Milan, as we know, are more than willing to cut the loan short.
Wonder if there’d be any room to negotiate away the mandatory but clause with Chelsea; wouldn’t mind him being on the team if it didn’t commit the club to 17m unnecessary spend.
The “seemed certain to leave” rhetoric was always dumb as hell as he’s on big wages and hasn’t impressed for a couple of years so why would another team want to take that on? He needs to be coached into some decent performances.
Just sign an U21 player who can play as both CB and DM (example: Thiaw) and release Bakayoko.
He can’t be released, that’s the issue. Milan signed a two year contract with Chelsea to take on his wages and sign him if certain conditions were met. Apparently without a cancellation clause.
So Chelsea have no want or need to get out of that deal, hence Milan looking for someone else to take on that loan. Which will be tricky, because he’s not proven good value for his high wages the last two years.
