Tomori opens up about the ‘secrets’ of Pioli and what makes Milan a ‘great club’

By Isak Möller -

Fikayo Tomori joined Milan on an initial loan deal back in January and we can consider ourselves lucky that a buy-out clause was included. With his displays in mind, the Rossoneri didn’t have any issues paying the €28m.

Unlike this past season, therefore, the defender is now owned by Milan and will get an entire season to show his qualities. The competition for the centre-back role may be fierce, but the Englishman seems up for the task.

In a long interview with Corriere Dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, Tomori spoke about his experience at the club thus far. He also shares his thoughts on Olivier Giroud, who Milan have signed from Chelsea, among other things.

On the experience at Milan…

“Everyone welcomed me very well from day one. Great club, exceptional structures. There is everything to grow and to win. A dream.”

On the season goals…

“Nothing is impossible, we always play to win. We are a young team, we are growing, but the second place of last season says that we are on the right path. We must go on like this, step by step, step by step.”

On the money spent by the club to buy him…

“There is no burden, it’s a great satisfaction to feel this trust around me. Everyone is helping me.”

On Kjaer and Romagnoli…

“Two great champions, they are helping me a lot in my personal growth. On the pitch but also off it. Romagnoli is the captain, he speaks to me in English and this helps me. I have an excellent feeling with him and with Kjaer.”

On Pioli…

“He teaches me the secrets and the details. How he wants me to play in his system, with the rest of the team. He was a defender, he teaches me a lot about how to defend, about the position to have on the pitch. I have an excellent relationship with him.”

On Ibrahimovic…

“He is a true leader, capable of making you bring out the best with just a word, a look. A champion.”

On Giroud…

“A very kind person as well as a great forward. He has immense experience, he has played in great teams, always scoring a lot and above all winning a lot. He will help us.”

On the future…

“At the end of my career, I would like to become a manager in football. Of course, after retirement, I would also like to become a father, have a nice family. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

Hopefully, Tomori will be just as good this season given that Milan will compete in the Champions League. In order to make it far there, although it might not be a priority, the Rossoneri will need their players to be at the top.
