AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali believes that the display in the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge was ‘simply not a Milan performance’.
Milan were comprehensively beaten 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League by Chelsea on Wednesday night after falling behind in the first half to a Wesley Fofana goal, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James finishing the job in the second half.
The Rossoneri did have more of the ball but they ultimately created just one real scoring opportunity as Charles De Ketelaere’s shot was saved from Rafael Leao’s cut-back just before the break, then Rade Krunic fired the rebound over.
Tonali spoke to Amazon Prime Italia after the game to reflect on his performance and the difficulties that the team suffered as a whole, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“It is difficult to analyse individual incidents, it was overall simply not a Milan performance. We need to use this experience and learn from it, as an example for so many other matches. Chelsea started with an extra gear compared to us and it was visible from the start,” he said.
Unfortunately Milan was more busy changing hands ( owners ) than focusing on buying better players. It is better that Milan is out of Europe. We lack the depth and killer strikers to go far. Better to just concentrate to ensure we get the 20th Title.
It’s very obvious that we are not ready for the CL yet. We are not at that level. We need more players with character experience on bigger stages. Though I don’t really blame the guys for the defeat. I believe a Milan with the RB(calabria) and LB(Theo) and natural winger of Sala/Messias and MM would have done better than what we witnessed yesterday. There was no attacking threat from our wings which is so unusual. I hope we get the guys back on time and just a little bit of luck, we will be fine.
I agree , best to get knocked out in group stage & concentrate on scudetto , we don’t have the squad depth for so many matches in 2 comps .
