Tonali left feeling hurt after Lazio demolition: “I could say a thousand things”

By Oliver Fisher -

Sandro Tonali apologised to the AC Milan fans who had to witness the season’s newest low point as the team were dismantled 4-0 by Lazio.

It was another damaging defeat for Milan as they were swept aside by Maurizio Sarri’s men in the capital. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Mattia Zaccagni each scored in the first half to continue the trend of falling behind early, with a penalty from Luis Alberto and a fourth from Felipe Anderson condemning the Rossoneri to another dismal loss.

The defeat not only probably hands the title to Napoli who now have a 12-point lead atop the table, but it leaves the top four race wide open with Lazio climbing into third and Milan now sitting just one point above Roma in fifth.

Tonali was interviewed by Milan TV after the game at the Stadio Olimpico and gave his raw reaction to what was another very difficult night for the team, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“It hurts to lose like this. The game started badly and was downhill for them. I could say a thousand things, but we weren’t at our level. We did very little. Now we need to work,” he began.

“We need to rediscover the spirit that has brought us up to today. We know that it has given us a great hand throughout the season, but now we need to find the team united again.

“We are also very sorry for the fans who are always with us. We have to get the group and with the help of everything, even the fans, to go towards a single goal.”

  1. When you don’t sign good players with good quality, this is what happens, how many average players do we have in Milan first eleven? I don’t know if the club is not seeing it, we don’t have outstanding defenders, just school boys ,is going to be very hard for them to stay in the top 4.i don’t know how many keepers they want to keep signing…… Without quality players.

  2. Stop talking and start playing. Tonali was one of the worst – if not worst – on this pitch. And TBH he hasn’t played anywhere near good enough all season. Overrated and useless. One of the reasons why Milan are one of the worst teams in Serie A nowadays. He needs to be benched.

  3. A total defensive disaster!!
Lazio attack outplayed our defense as they wanted.
Heading back to the old days before Pioli’s era?
And the most frustrating for me is the lack of fire in their eyes!!
    Lions….uh ?

  4. There we go; we always find fault with our players but do not even realize that we have NO plan. Is that the players’ fault?

    1. The plan should be kept simple as the players fail to understand the game: Don’t give the ball to opponents. Pass the ball to players who wear the same colored shirt as you. Stop conceding (easy) goals. Attack like you (as a team, not individually) want to score goals and actually score them.

      There. Easy enough.

      1. It’s easy to say “Pioli has no plans and it’s not the players’ fault” but in reality that really is the players fault. For sure Pioli has given them instructions on how he wants the players to defend and attack. The players are failing at everything at the moment. But the fix isn’t “continue as is” like Pioli seems to think.

We need changes. Lots of them. Huge ones. And the biggest change needed is the attitude. Fight for every ball. Stay focused. Protect the own goal at any cost.

  5. Well what I get to say this Milan standing 4 is not active and even Milan need active mefilder tonali is great player and he needs that willassistance him when you look at last season Frank and tonali Ibrahim there combination was beautiful but this season they are playing out of game
