AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali emerged on top after his duel with Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com reflect on the duel between two of Italian football’s midfield jewels and start by confirming that directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were right in strongly believing in Tonali’s potential. They managed to get a discount from Brescia on the amount of the option to buy making the investment around €17m, and now it looks like a bargain.

After dominating the midfield against Lazio, the 21-year-old showed great signs against Juventus too, winning plenty of duels, recovering balls and providing an assist to Ante Rebic from the corner that ended up earning a point.

The report adds that – with data in hand – Tonali won the duel against Locatelli from all points of view. Something seems to have clicked in the head of Tonali who is now looking confident, with mental strength and quality in set pieces among the qualities that he is now showing in abundance.
