Tonali speaks about Milan after perfect Newcastle debut: “I wish the Rossoneri good luck”

By Oliver Fisher -

Sandro Tonali had a perfect start to life as a Newcastle United player as he scored after less than six minutes in his Premier League debut.

Calciomercato.com recall how Tonali was signed by Newcastle this summer from Milan for €64m plus bonuses and put pen to paper on a contract for the next five seasons until June 2028.

He scored his first goal for the Toon in competitive games with a volley from Anthony Gordon’s cross from the left wing and his side would eventually go on to rout Aston Villa 5-1, putting them top of the Premier League table for the time being at least.

After the match, Tonali reflected on what was pretty much a perfect competitive debut and he also spoke about his former club Milan too, where he has many friends.

“We won, I scored and we had fun. How nice, it couldn’t have gone better than this. I’m even happier, I feel the trust of the coach and the warmth of the fans,” he said.

“I often talk to my former team-mates at Milan, we are friends before players. Many have already written and called me to congratulate me, I will reply to all.

“I wish the Rossoneri good luck for their debut in the league. Here in England life is different from Italy, but the professionalism is the same.”

Rafael Leao sent a message to Tonali on Instagram saying ‘Tvb’ which means ‘I love you’, to which Tonali answered: ‘And you Rafa’.

  1. Best of luck Sandro wish the management didn’t take that decisions but it’s all for good someday I pray the ucl bring you back to Sansiro and we weep you guys hahahaha

    1. He actually indicated in an interview that he hoped to one day return for the club so my guess is that in 5-6 years its likely that he will return, but who knows,

      1. he could go like a boss and just play out the contract and return on free in 2028 😀
Or in 2027 on low free, “homesick” or something

    2. Get over your misplaced bitterness. management didn’t make the decision, Tonali did. It is always up to the player if they want to move. Newcastle came in with a bid that was at least double his true worth, of course they will take it. Look what they have been able to do with all that extra money. Tonali also took the money and ran. The allure of a few additional million for an already extraordinarily well-paid man was too much for him to pass up. Wealthy, playing for your supposed boyhood dream team, living in Milan versus even more money, and having to live in that dump Newcastle. He made his choice, money was all that mattered to him.

  2. Saw the highlights and he had a lovely debut indeed.

Don’t have any dogs in the fight, but I had to watch EPL games, it would probably be Newcastle lol. Apart from Tonali, we were linked with Botman and Isak once upon a time anyway. Bit curious on how they’d develop.

  3. Not only did Tonali scored, he was the reason behind two of the attacks that led to goals while in Milan Some fans think Tonali wasn’t good enough. I don’t blame those fans at all. I understand why they think so.

The reason is.. Pioli was using only 20% of Tonali’s actual strength. The sheer arsenal of passes that Tonali possesses is unreal and only like 3/4 players in the entire world can do what Tonali can actually do. Pioli never utilized that because the only tactics he EVER used in Milan was lob the ball to leao and goodspeed.

It’s sad to see a coach from another club showing us how to properly utilize one of our best players. I have a feeling same is about to be repeated with CDK and Diaz. Reason? Pioli.. in his ENTIRE career.. .never ever managed to utilize a CAM properly.. dude just doesn’t know how to do it when his entire formation.. 4231.. is literally Based on a CAM’s skills and he asks his CAM to…. Defend. LMFAO

I remember just how pathetic hakan was in CAM under Pioli trying to juggle between playmaking and defending while Simone just showed Pioli how to utilize Hakan’s skills with even MORE Defensive duties. Not saying Simone is the example to follow or anything.. but someone as one directional as Simone could do it but Pioli couldn’t.. Thats the point.

Man seeing Tonali shines in NUFC just hurts to bad.

  4. This man.. THIS !! I mean you can add Eddie Howe to that Inzaghi bracket too.
I’ve been saying this all the time and got bashed a few times, Tonali has a wide range of arsenal’s, one being his passing. That was literally 80% his responsibility at Brescia fgs.
But here we got Pioli.. pf

  5. Oh wow! Just watched the highlights. The goal was good, but he performed two pre-assists in Pirlo style. Fantastic debut. I wish him all the best.

  6. I still can’t believe we can just let my best player go just like that,I still love u like ever,I wish u best of luck in England,I miss u Sandro Tonali,I wish u could come back to Milan in future….
