Tuttosport: Colombo could become part of Milan’s attacking rotation in 2023-24

The AC Milan management must make a decision regarding who they might include in the squad as a third striker, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) writes how the current idea is to sign Marcus Thuram on a free transfer when his contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach expires at the end of the month.

He would be the new leader of the attack while his compatriot Olivier Giroud would act as his back-up, given that he will turn 37 this year and thus can no longer be asked to play as many minutes as he was last season.

According to the Turin-based newspaper, the third striker in the squad could be Lorenzo Colombo, unless the Diavolo decide to send him on loan for another year after buying him back from Lecce.

Colombo scored five goals in 33 Serie A games with his last one being the most significant as it was the one that secured their place in the top flight.

  1. It’s better for him to go somwhere where he can play. Rather than to sit on Milan bench as a 3rd striker. Just loan him out.

  2. Well… Let’s be honest here. He can’t really do worse than Origi. And Origi was (supposed to be) the 2nd striker. I bet Colombo would score more goals as the 3rd option than Origi & CDK combined. 🙂

    1. I agree. Let’s not spend money on a third striker as we have many holes to fix and when we already have Colombo on the team. He’s probably not going to play a lot but it’s up to him to perform in practice and gain some playing time.

    2. And let’s also be honest about his future prospects. He doesn’t look like a future no. 1 for a top 6 club, so might as well install him as our no. 3. Then if he shows decently when called upon he can move up to no. 2 when the current management allows Giroud to expire in 2024.

      1. He won’t be first striker, when Giroud retire, he will be the backup to Thuram (if he arrive), then in few years, Camarda (Milan wonderkid) will start to takeover.

  3. Its a no brainer bringing him back. Hes a good young striker who will continue to improve.
There will be plenty of games to keep everyone happy. At 3 7 Giroud is likely to have injuries so i forsee Colombia playing plenty of games.
Given our new owners have no intention to invest in the squad, homegrown players, free contracts and cheap unproven youngsters is the future

    1. Bring him back by all means, he will be a good third choice striker, but i dont think he will improve much as i dont think he is actually that good. Look at his goal tallies, not great. But fine for a third striker as long as we dont expect him to move to first choice.

  4. I half expected this, and I like it.

With strikers, service is as important as minutes, and he gets to train with Giroud.

Just hope Pioli gives him 20 mins here and there.

  5. Highly possible, to fulfill UCL regulation of Home-grown players from club.
We have : Calabria, Pobega, Gabbia, now Colombo.
So, Maldini, Jungdal, Brescianini can go or on-loan next season.
