Tuttosport: Conte or Motta – Milan divided over the post-Pioli era

By Isak Möller -

The search for a new manager has already begun, unofficially anyway, and two names are at the forefront: Antonio Conte and Thiago Motta. As per a report, AC Milan are divided over which one they should choose.

Stefano Pioli’s tenure at Milan is coming to an end, following what has been another disappointing season so far. The Coppa Italia exit was not pretty, with questionable tactical choices, and clinching the Europa League remains very unlikely.

As reported by Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Pioli’s departure at the end of the season is more and more likely. Milan have two names for the post-Pioli era, namely Conte and Motta, with the latter being the favourite as things stand.

The Bologna manager has impressed a lot this season and his contract will expire in the summer. He has done a tremendous job with the Rossoblu’s talents and his playing style would suit Milan. Having said that, Milan are also considering hiring Conte.

The experienced manager would completely change Milan’s project, wanting ready players and demanding a high salary on top of that. This is why Motta is the favourite for now, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s vouch for the former Spurs manager should not be underestimated.

  1. Maybe, none of them? The one does not stay for long, and the other has 2 years of coaching experience? Do not let the recent success of Bologna overshadow his rather unsuccessful short stint at Spezia, or Genoa…

Someone with the charateriatics of De Zerbi is needed, someone who had success at Sassuolo and now at Brighton.

    1. Success at Brighton and Sassuolo is not exactly that exciting either to be honest, 0 zero top club experience. RDZ has almost no pressure at Brighton.

      1. Maybe not.. but a bit more exciting in comparison? Brighton has been scrapping the top 5 line the entire season, while simultaneously having topped the europa league group before Marseille and Ajax..

Who’d be your preference for coach?

        1. You mean the club he took over from Potter and was already close to the top 5? Wow, what an accomplishment. People here talk like Brighton became good when De Zerbi came and it is a lie…

          1. And Potter did the same. Considering that there is nothing special in De Zerbi, but people around him at Brighton. Recruitment team especially…

        2. If milan fans want to steady the sinking ship as juventus and inter did.. we need conte.. tired with all these mediocrity managers. I want to win.. conte is the answer. I don’t want any experimenting anymore! Conte! Conte!

          1. A sinking ship ? we are freaking 3rd 7 points ahead of number 5 and hasn’t lost in serie a for over a month, stop over dramatizing.

  2. Antonio is the man for the job, he will make AC Milan competitive again, we don’t need another inter man to be in charge of our club. Sempre Milan.

  3. All of u shouting Motta…. someone like him can only coach mid table team and average players.
Not a big club like Milan that need to compete in every face of every competition on like Bologna that only play to survive relegation every season and not fighting for trophy. With all the pressure and responsibilities he will flop at milan cuz inexperience

    1. Both are ok, but taking a coach like Motta or De Zerbi is a risk. 0 experience on this level. What happened to Potter at Chelsea? He created this good Brighton, not De Zerbi…

  4. All this is speculation at this point but I will play along and toss in a name to get opinions. What does everyone think of Vincenzo Italiano?

  5. Conte feels like a harsh antibiotic to cure Milan’s infection and get it firing on all cylinders. Which is necessary by the looks of it.

Motta would be like holistic medicine and acupuncture. Slowly, it could heal Milan’s ailments. Maybe throw in some yoga to prevent injuries. LOL!!!
