It was yet another tough evening for Charles De Ketelaere as he came off the bench for AC Milan and Monza. It’s clear that he still needs time to adapt, but that doesn’t make the situation any easier for him.
De Ketelaere replaced Brahim Diaz in the 53rd minute as the Spaniard suffered a blow. Tough shoes to fill, given the brace scored, and the Belgian struggled to impose himself in the game. Especially when he was moved to a more advanced role up front.
As highlighted by Tuttosport (via MilanNews), it’s not easy to acclimatize in such a short period of time, with so much being different. He missed a big chance after Junior Messias somehow managed to get the ball to him, and that only made matters worse as the newspaper described it.
He didn’t even celebrate with the Curva Sud after the win, rather leaving for the locker room as soon as the referee blew his whistle for full-time. He might get a new chance against Dinamo Zagreb, depending on Diaz’s condition, but he needs a goal soon for his confidence.
Come on give the kid a break. Yes he was purchased with tons of money, but need time to settle in. Most players in the squad need at least another season to get going. Kessie, Tonali, and even Leao don’t even perform when they come in. I’m very certain he will come good by end year even better next season.
We have seen some very good things from him earlier in the season — he’s very unlucky not to have multiple assists as he’s put teammates in very good positions to score a few times and he also had a goal he scored disallowed by VAR (which was very questionable call by VAR).
BUT, I have to say, I am disappointed that he didn’t celebrate with the team. For me, victory is and should always be the most important thing for the players. If he scores a goal and we lose 3-1, he should be upset. If he doesn’t score but we win 4-1 like yesterday, he should be happy and celebrating with the team.

Kid is probably embarassed about missing the easy goal to be fair. Maybe he just didn’t wanna take the credit as he feels undeserved.
