Tuttosport: Giroud set to achieve Milan milestone and has no intention of stopping

Olivier Giroud continues to show how decisive he can be on the biggest stage, and AC Milan’s plan is to continue with him beyond the end of the current season.

Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) writes how Giroud is expected to start today’s game against Lecce at the Stadio Via del Mare and presuming that he does, he will rack up his 100th appearance with Milan across all competitions.

The ranking of French players to have played for the Rossoneri is led by Marcel Desailly with 186 official appearances, while in second place is Theo Hernandez with 177, then in third is Mathieu Flamini with 122, fourth Philippe Mexes with 114 and fifth Pierre Kalulu with 106.

Giroud seems to have a certain predisposition for scoring away goals and that is what Stefano Pioli is asking of him again today in Lecce. Milan will have to demonstrate that the mini crisis of results has been fully put aside after the splendid victory against PSG.

The 37-year-old is having his best start to a season for Milan, at least on a statistical level. In the 2021-22 season, in the first 10 games played in the league he scored four goals, while last season he had four again while in the current campaign he has already reached six.

Giroud still feels young out on the field and you can also see it from how he manages to channel his strength during the game: when the right balls arrive, Oli is always ready.

His deal expires next June but there is such a good relationship between him and Milan that discussions could also take place at the end of the season. Giroud’s desire would be to continue at least another year with the Rossoneri.
