Tuttosport: A heartfelt match – Milan and Monza meet for the first time since Berlusconi’s passing

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will face their Lombard neighbours Monza tomorrow, and it will be the first meeting between the sides since the passing of Silvio Berlusconi.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) recalls 22 October 2022 when Milan beat Monza 4-1 at San Siro. Berlusconi was expected at the stadium for the first ‘derby’ in Serie A between the two teams that had a large piece of his heart.

He bought Milan in 1986 and brought to the top of Italy and the world several times and then he decided to purchase Monza who were in Serie C at the time and he brought them to the top flight in just a few years.

Last October, however, Berlusconi had something come up and so he could not attend the game, with Adriano Galliani there instead. He too is linked to the red and black after over 30 years of memories and, above all, even more linked to the managerial figure of the President.

Tomorrow, Berlusconi’s absence will obviously be felt even more. The teams will meet in an official match for the first time since the death of the ‘Presidente. The two clubs remembered his life during the summer by establishing the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy: the first edition was won by Milan on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Tomorrow Raffaele Palladino’s men, the very man that Berlusconi wanted to promote from Monza’s Primavera to replace Giovanni Stroppa on the bench after a few matches last season, will try to take points at San Siro for Silvio.
