Tuttosport: Leao to miss out as Pioli moves towards formation change for Juventus game

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is set to change formation again for Friday’s Coppa Italia semi-final return leg against Juventus, a report claims.

The Rossoneri will travel to the Allianz Stadium to face the Bianconeri knowing they must score at least once, having drawn the first leg 1-1 at San Siro and with away goals in effect.

There are plenty of selection problems for Stefano Pioli who will be without suspended trio Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Theo Hernandez and Samu Castillejo as well as injured defender Leo Duarte.

Monday’s edition of the newspaper il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive) confirms that Stefano Pioli is moving towards using the the 4-3-2-1 formation against Juve.

Ante Rebic will be the centre-forward, supported by two midfielders who should be Hakan Calhanoglu (almost certain) and Lucas Paquetà (likely). It is more commonly known as the ‘Christmas tree’ system, like the one used by Carlo Ancelotti during his time at Milan.

The big exclusion will be Rafael Leao, who initially seemed destined to start the game but instead will begin from the bench and will have to be ready if called upon.

Pioli wants a balanced team in Turin, so Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie are likely to keep their places with Bonaventura as a box-to-box midfielder.
