Tuttosport: Lens express interest in Milan midfielder and could satisfy €28m demand

By Isak Möller -

Charles De Ketelaere has ended up on the radar of Lens, according to a report. The Belgian could leave AC Milan this summer after a disappointing first season with the club, but the price tag is clear.

De Ketelaere joined Milan for just over €35m last summer and his first season was far from a success, registering just one assist. While the 22-year-old is eager to redeem himself, however, the Rossoneri are open to a sale.

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport, Ligue 1 side Léns have expressed their interest in the player. Milan have made it clear that they want at least €28m, so to avoid a capital gain, and the French side could perhaps satisfy this.

In fact, Lens are in a good position financially after selling Lois Openda for €43m to RB Leipzig and Seko Fofana for €25m to Al Nassr. It remains to be seen if they will initiate talks with Milan to make an official offer.

  1. Worst signing last season . His adaptation too slow, misunderstanding tactic too . Sell him now before too late like rebic ( value dropped drastically due to 2 season flop ) . Just accept whatever 20m euro cash even it means loss on account, keep him for next season in bench only make his value more go down

    1. Exactly that, I was screaming a season and a half ago to sell rebic while he still had some value but they kept a hold of him, it was clear he was awful after injuries

    1. I don’t think CDK is ready to quit. He’s gonna try to play it out another year I think. I’m conflicted to be honest.

      1. He’s going to reject every offer for sure and we’re going to be stuck with him for another season. I’m not even sure it’s just a mental problem with him tbh – I think it could also be that he only had reasonable stats because he was playing in Belgium.

  2. Should be a good signing for them as he would be able to play the role he did at Brugge where he was so successful in(49gp, 18g, 10a). Should be able to do the job for them in a less pressured environment than Milan. All of the best to him if he does leave, it doesn’t always work out for some players at bigger clubs. See Alessio Cerci, Andrea Bertolacci, M’Baye Niang etc.

    1. Jesus don’t remind me of Cerci… Overrated pap almost as bad as Belotti. I predict the same outcome for Berardi if he ever dared leave Sassuolo.

    2. Bertolacci and Niang didn’t arrive after being one of the standout players in the league. That’s the difference. They weren’t expensive transfers.

  3. The coach is failing a proper gem.
    This kid needs a chance.
Super expensive signings like Citys Jack Grealish needed time to be adapted into the team very well. But leave it to a good coach and some quality players and it’s only a matter of time. Grealish was simply undroppable last season. Playing so well.
I believe the best coaches will always figure out how to best exploit systems and get their best players playing well.
But Coach Pioli played it safe and settled for a system that guaranteed Messias more minutes than CDK!
We lacked playing quality last season, specially in the final third, so much so that even a faltering Inter overtook us in the league.
We were outclassed in that semi final. And thanks to the Juventus penalty we were saved an embarrassment.
But there’s hope this season. Leao wants to be more responsible, Giroud is still firing, we have Pulisic, RLC, heck CDK can thrive with this group!
    Make the kid play.

    1. Everything about your comment is wrong. He was given every chance. He showed absolutely nothing except a poor attitude and feeling sorry for himself.
Messias and CDK are different positions ,really have nothing to do with each other except that Messias actually scores goals.
Diaz was CDK’s main competition and CDK had every opportunity to win that starting spot, but Diaz was better and deserved it.
Stop blaming the Coach for a player’s failure. First of all, if there is one thing Pioli has been good at it has been developing and getting the best out of young players. But you can’t expect the coach to change the playing style/ tactics of the team just to suit one unproven kid.
Now with the new additions and formation there is going to be even less of a role for him now. Where would you expect him to play? It’s time to move on from this mistake, take whatever you can get for him.

        1. Same question to you but in terms of his arrival. Did he really show that much at Bordeaux? How can you explain why we bought him? Because whenever I see him nothing suggests he should be given more opportunities.

        2. Adli was never given a chance. CDK was given many chances. Honestly Adli is a big mystery, but we don’t see what happens in practice everyday. Not every player especially really young ones is going to work out. Not every player is going to fit into every system. Is Ballo-Toure Pioli’s fault? Origi, Bakayoko? Why is CDK the exception? A coach has to do what’s best for the overall team, not the individual player, unless it’s a top player that you are building your team around. I think Pioli has done well with young players ( Kalulu, Leao, Theo, Kessie, Bennacer, Thiaw)

          1. Ballo Toure and Messias are not Milan quality. Simple. But they were necessary signings. Consider the strict financial management of the club.

And those players you mention were well integrated into the team when Pioli found them, Kessie was signed in 2017.
Pioli, to his credit brought balance yes BUT mostly because Ibra and Kjaer joined. Great timing!
Ibra carried the mental state of Milan to reach very high levels. Players took responsibility. Our better players started playing well more consistently, take Theo and Bennacer.
And last season Mr. Pioli struggled WITHOUT Ibra!

And besides, Leao and Tonali also had subpar first seasons.

CDK needs more positive games. Not just games where even the best players are not performing and the team is struggling for wins, or are not even playing at all.

What did we learn from the Champions League semis? We can’t compete with the big clubs if we rely on the brilliance of one player.
For last season, even Giroud would be nothing in a 10 game absence of Leao. Point is we lacked competitive quality because Messias was the next in line with the numbers.

            But this season is promising.

          2. What CDK needs is a new team. He had chances, it didn’t work out, and that’s ok. Maybe he will do better elsewhere but that doesn’t mean he would’ve if he stays here. There is no place for him now on this team with the new formation. Sell now before another season of him doing nothing drops his value dramatically.

          3. CDK costed Milan a lot points last season, I like him but he has to go , Adli is far better, just he wasn’t giving a chance.

      1. Chance at the wrong position. CDK is not AM. He didn’t play centrally during his best season at Club Brugge, just look at his heatmap that is void of heat signature at AM area. His heat signature was on right flank and left flank.

    2. Excellent point of view. You understand very well this sport. Pioli has more problems than you to understand it. Let’s see what he( Pioli) will do with these players .

  4. Rebic had 29 goals and17 asists. Last two years he had bad luck with injyries and Pioli. He always gave his all for Milan, so shut up you ungrateful bots. Write here when, Pulisisic, Cakwuaeze, and Okafor together will have this numbers for Milan..

    1. Idgaf, firstly don’t talk me like that, because some of you get too confident and comfortable behind a screen, secondly football is a business and a year and a half ago he stopped performing due to injuries but his value was still high. If you think that me saying he should’ve been sold at that time is ungrateful then you live in a world that is full of unicorns and rainbows, this is business, nothing personal

    1. Since we apparently sold Theo in your universe I think we’d be able to do a bit better than Giroud at striker that that point.

    2. This is terible formation. Even 343 still better than 3241. You even need to sell theo & calabria on your fantasy formation

  5. When people say “Adli wasn’t given a chance” fair point.

When people say “CDK wasn’t given a chance”…. what?

He had more than enough playing time.

And as far as Rebic, he burned a bridge and crossed a line and there was no going back. He had to leave. End of story.
