Tuttosport: Maldini’s fate virtually sealed as co-existence with Rangnick ‘impossible’

By Oliver Fisher -

It took years to see Paolo Maldini back at AC Milan again, but it appears he is set to leave once again after less than a year in his role as technical director.

That is according to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), who note that after the sacking of Zvonimir Boban due to comments he made against CEO Ivan Gazidis, Maldini is also set to follow him out of the door.

The decisive meeting with Gazidis has not yet happened, but the fate of the former captain seems to have already been written. Even before the corporate chaos that led to the dismissal of Boban, the continuous internal conflicts in the club had exhausted Maldini and made him question his future at the club.

Like Boban, Maldini also did not like the decision made by Gazidis to approach Ralf Ranginick without warning the sporting area of the club. Despite the denials, the German appears to be odds on to arrive at San Siro this summer, and Maldini would find it impossible to work alongside someone he recently described as a “profile not suitable for Milan”.

The meeting with Gazidis – which is likely to happen this week – will be crucial, but it appears the farewell is on the horizon.
