Tuttosport: Milan and Everton go head-to-head for midfielder dubbed ‘the new Van Bommel’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are keen to strengthen their midfield department with the signing of AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, according to a report.

Koopmeiners is already the captain of the Eredivisie side and has 16 goals and three assists in 42 appearances across the league, cup and Europa League this season as a holding midfielder.

The Rossoneri have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 22-year-old in recent weeks, with the midfield department set to be overhauled this summer as Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura are set to leave, plus doubts over the futures of Franck Kessie, Lucas Paqueta and Hakan Calhanoglu.

It was also claimed though in the English press that Everton are keen and that ex-Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti is ready to sanction a €15m bid for Koopmeiners.

According to Wednesday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Milan are working to strengthen the midfield ahead of next season and are ‘always on the trail of Koopmeiners’ – dubbed the “new Van Bommel”.

However, the outlet also confirms that the main competition is from Everton, with Ancelotti a keen admirer of the talented youngster.
