Tuttosport: Milan begin talks over swap deal with Sassuolo involving Rafael Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

There are rumours regarding a possible swap deal between AC Milan and Sassuolo involving Rafael Leao, according to a shock report.

Despite the face he got on the scoresheet in Monday’s 4-1 win over Lecce it has been a difficult year for Leao since his arrival from Lille last summer, as the Portuguese starlet has scored just three league goals following an investment widely reported to be over €28m.

According to Friday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanLive), there is a new solution that the Rossoneri have identified to help Leao develop: to send him out on loan.

Keeping him on the bench next season will do no good and the 21-year-old has not shown that he is ready and mature enough for a leading role. Ralf Rangnick will want to sign at least a couple of strikers, so the space for Leao will be further reduced.

There has been talk of an exchange with Sassuolo involving Gianluca Scamacca and in recent days a discussion has begun regarding a possible exchange.

The Neroverdi would be a suitable destination for Leao to relaunch his career, while Milan have long held an interest in Scamacca who is more of a centre-forward than the former Sporting CP man.

The paper adds that Leao would not be allowed to leave on a permanent basis to Sassuolo but the club do want to sign Scamacca permanently, so a complex negotiation beckons.
