Youssouf Fofana is at the top of AC Milan’s wish list for the defensive midfield role and they are currently in pole position. According to a report, they are also hoping to secure a discount for two key reasons.
Milan conceded too many goals in the 2023-24 campaign and one of the culprits was the lack of balance in midfield. As such, a defensive midfielder should arrive this summer and Monaco’s Fofana is at the top of Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio’s wish list for the position.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Monaco have slapped a price tag of €25m on the 25-year-old but Milan are confident of securing a discount. Indeed, they are looking to spend around €18m as Fofana’s contract will expire next summer, while the player has also expressed a desire to leave.
Monaco will not be able to hold their ground too much, in other words, as they risk a fall-out with the player and getting zero next year. The French side will probably not buckle immediately, though, so Milan will have to work on the operation a bit.
The transfer window will officially open tomorrow but Fofana is currently at the Euros with France, so major developments will likely take place after.
