Tuttosport: Milan will not sign a new left-back and will trust Primavera graduate

AC Milan’s mission to sign a new left-back seems to have come to an end, with Stefano Pioli happy to put faith in a Primavera graduate.

Milan have been linked with a number of different left-backs over the past few weeks from Rogerio to Riccardo Calafiori. However, Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) reports this morning that there is now almost certainly not going to be a new signing for that rule.

Fode Ballo-Touré is still up for sale and the management hope to be able to offload him before the window closes, but the funds would not be diverted towards an external replacement.

Instead, Pioli’s plan is to promote the 17-year-old Davide Bartesaghi to the role of deputy to Theo Hernandez, having liked what he saw during the preseason friendlies in which the Primavera defender didn’t look out of place.

Alessandro Florenzi can also support Bartesaghi given his versatility and ability to play on the other side.

  1. Finally. A Primavera talent being given faith for once. Now he actually has the chance to develop and become special. Good move.

  2. During the conference Pioli made it sound like he would alternate between Bartesaghi and Florenzi. Which is frankly bonkers – Florenzi in a position that requires speed? LOL!!!

  3. This is good news. But I just wish Pioli had this vision with Kerkez a year ago. It was so unnecessary for him to leave Milan that way…

    1. Unfortunately, it probably wouldn’t have made any difference as Kerkez wanted a starting role. He was never going to get enough game time as Theo’s backup to make him happy.
