Tuttosport: Milan have a clear plan for Adli – new diet and change of role

By Isak Möller -

Yacine Adli was signed by AC Milan last summer but he remained at Bordeaux on a season-long loan, thus being more or less like a new signing this summer. And Stefano Pioli has a clear plan for him.

Milan paid a mere €8m to Bordeaux for the talented midfielder, aged 22, last summer and a contributing factor to that was obviously the one-year loan. In either case, Adli is now at Milan and he wants to prove his qualities.

As reported by Tuttosport this morning (via SempreMilan.it), Pioli believes that Adli could be a very good option for the midfield tandem. Competition is currently tough for the No.10 role and depending on the outcome of the market, the tandem could be better for him.

First, however, Adli needs to gain muscle mass and that’s why Milan have given him a new diet to follow, as well as new exercises in the gym. With his 186 centimetres, Adli could become a very strong midfielder even in the tandem role.

  1. Forward thinking progressive move that. Star the creative play deep. The CBS can play simple to Adli and he can play from deep like Pirlo

    1. Read Pioli interview. He said “In the middle, physicality in terms of size is not so important but legs and intelligence.”

      1. Absolutely, Maldini once said, if I have to make a tackle then I’ve already made a mistake. Defending isn’t just about crunching tackles, it’s about reading the game as well. Tonali-Adli as the pivot is exciting. Pirlo went from an underachieving no10 to the best register in the world.

    2. If you watch our games last season, especially in second half of season, Kessie is no longer our starting tandem. He keep playing a lot because our CAM is sh*te last season.

So chill about Kessie replacement, and trust our coaching team.

    3. And Kessie is nowhere even close to Adli’s passing/reading/movement/speed/skills. Not to mention the willingness to play for the Rossoneri shirt.

      1. Maybe Pioli should reconsider as there are people here on this website who previously said Adli cannot defend. I bet they know the man better than Pioli does.

  2. Not really, De Bruyne moved back into midfield, players aren’t rigidly bound to one position, I’ve never understood that argument. James Milner starter as a no10 and ended up in midfield, and fullback

  3. I like this idea.

Brahim and CDK can fight for the CAM.

Tonali, Bennacer, Adli and Pobega is more than enough for the Midfield (+Krunic)

I also like Odyenika but I want pobega and adli to accelerate.

  4. Joseph Yobo also started his career as a striker but he was later converted as a defender, Kolo Toure came to arsenal from Asec Mimosa(Ivory Coast) as a striker and Arsene Wenger converted him to become one of the best defender in the premier league

  5. With the way Adli reads the game, I definitely see the greatest potential in him as a deep-lying midfielder. He has the quick Zidane’esque touch which very few in that position can master, and his vision honestly reminds me of a more risky Pirlo! Adli can be great in such a role
