Tuttosport: Milan player ratings for Sassuolo win – Few shine in an average performance

By Ben Dixon -

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport has offered their rating of AC Milan’s performance against Sassuolo, which saw the Rossoneri win 1-0 at the San Siro.

Saturday’s game went how it needed to. Milan had to prove that they were a side capable of unpacking a defensively astute side in Sassuolo and eventually did so through Christian Pulisic, who scored another vital opening goal for the Rossoneri.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) gave the American a rating of 6.5 – claiming his goal sugar-coated an average performance.

The Diavolo’s highest rating from the game was shared between Mike Maignan and Ismael Bennacer, who earned ratings of 7. Firstly, the Frenchman “redeemed himself” after a few sub-par performances, impressing with both his shot-stopping and distribution.

In regards to Bennacer, the feeling is somewhat bittersweet. Even though he is still returning from an injury, his class still shone, with the paper calling him “AC Milan’s dynamo”. However, with his departure to the African Cup of Nations imminent, there is a sadness attached to his performance.

Elsewhere, Rafael Leao only scored a 5. Saturday’s performance left a lot to be desired from the Portuguese winger (again), and when Pioli removed him from the field, his departure was met by whistles from the travelling fans.

Simon Kjaer and Theo Hernandez matched Pulisic’s rating of 6.5. A score of 6 was given to Davide Calabria, Alessandro Florenzi and Tijjani Reijnders. Finally, Olivier Giroud and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were given ratings of 5.5 for underwhelming performances.

From the bench, Yacine Adli earned a rating of 6, and Luka Jovic, like Giroud, was given a 5.5. Debutant Kevin Zeroli, Samuel Chukwueze and Jan-Carlo Simic were not given ratings.
