Tuttosport: Milan’s mercato gives Pioli the chance to deploy alternative formations

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s summer transfer window has opened up more possibilities for Stefano Pioli from a tactical point of view, a report has claimed.

Milan were one of the most active teams on the market as they started making moves back in June, with Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori, Sandro Tonali, Brahim Diaz, Fode Ballo-Toure, Olivier Giroud, Alessandro Florenzi, Pietro Pellegri and Tiemoue Bakayoko all joining, plus Chaka Traore, Yacine Adli (who will return to Bordeaux on loan for the season) and Junior Messias on deadline day.

According to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Pioli now has two quality players for each position and this means he will also be able to evaluate the possibility of some tactical tweaks.

The 4-2-3-1 remains the formation that he has the most confidence in, but during the year other systems could also be used, such as the 4-4-2 or maybe one with a three-man defence.
