AC Milan are pushing hard to try and build a new stadium on their own and there are a couple of sites that stand out above all, according to a report.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports how Milan have decided to build a new stadium on their own and therefore without Inter, despite the project that the two clubs launched together four years ago.
Gerry Cardinale and RedBird Capital are first of all aiming to build in the La Maura Hippodrome area and it is the priority to try and get a concrete plan in place for that particular site, given that revenues of €100-150m are possible with a new Milan-owned stadium.
In the event that this is not possible, the leadership already have alternative areas in mind, primarily the former Falck steelworks area in Sesto San Giovanni, which is out towards the north east of the city.
Just build our own stadium, I don’t care where.
ideally it would be build in san siro or la maura area but i cant say i would mind it at all if build in san sesto giovanni area either. There isnt any real downsides in choosing san sesto from what i can see, maybe the former falck steelworks is a bit more pricy in cleaning up the poluted area but the ground is propably also somewhat cheaper than buying a lot in the middle of the city.
If there isnt any clean signs of us getting the la maura area in a matter of a month or two then i would say go for the san sesto giovanni area as we need to break grounds as fast as possible.
More importantly, there will be little to no public resistance to the Sesto site. This is the issue holding up everything in San Siro and La Maura. I’m actually surprised that the club is even bothering with La Maura as it will mean another six months of delays before they realize it’s not possible. I believe that La Maura would also use the same metro stop as San Siro currently uses, plus a walk of about .5 km, and minimal road access. The Sesto site is on the metro line and between a number of highways, so transportation access will be excellent. 15 min to the Duomo on the metro, so this is not far at all from the city center. For me it’s a no brainer which one to choose.
for the history of the club it would be best to stay in the same area in my view but as you said the public resistance is what keeps us from getting allowed to build nearby so i at least agree on what you are saying but id give it a month or two and if no solution has happened by then, then buy the former steelworks area and start breaking ground later this year.
The negative commenters on this forum can bash Cardinale and RedBird because they aren’t a PetroState, but Milan fans can at least rest assured that they will get this stadium project moving come hell-or-high water. It is absolutely critical to the future viability of the club, and the same goes really for all the clubs in Serie A which is why financially it has fallen behind. In 3 years from now, Milan will have their new stadium, regardless of where it has to be built, and independent from anything else that along will leave a legacy as a period of success for the club.
alone* not along
