Tuttosport: Morata ‘progresses well’ but will not start vs. Venezia – the reasoning

By Ben Dixon -

It has been a difficult start to AC Milan life for Alvaro Morata, and whilst the Spanish striker is recovering well, according to a report, he will start the game against Venezia on the bench.

Change was expected on the Milan frontline during the summer as early as December. Olivier Giroud’s contract expired in six months, and whilst the Frenchman was still providing, questions were in place about his ability to lead the squad to success.

Therefore, questions were asked about when a replacement would arrive as early as the January mercato. Whilst a few options were looked into, there was no action taken, and so the Diavolo decided to wait until the summer.

In the months between January and June, it seemed increasingly likely that Joshua Zirkzee would be given the No.9 shirt. However, it has ended on the back of Luka Jovic – a player whose deal was extended in the summer, even if the Rossoneri tried to part ways later in the mercato.

The new striker to arrive, though, was Alvaro Morata, and whilst questions were, and still are being asked about the signing, it seems like a shrewd piece of business. Nevertheless, the Spaniard was a victim of the Rossoneri’s never-ending injury issues.

Recovery has been going well, though, and according to a report from Tuttosport (via Milan News), he has been working at Milanello to overcome his muscle issue. Whilst he is ‘progressing well’ he is expected to be on the bench for the game against Venezia.

Instead of risking him, Paulo Fonseca would seemingly rather have him at 100% against Liverpool and Inter – a game which he has admitted to be looking forward to.
