Tuttosport: Pioli’s double mission – Milan need calm amid corporate uncertainty

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are back in league action this afternoon against Hellas Verona at the Stadio MarcAntonio Bentegodi, hoping to make it five wins in a row across all competitions.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) has a section titled ‘Pioli’s double mission’. After having secured progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, the Rossoneri will return to the field this afternoon in the league against Verona with the aim of securing second place.

That is not the only objective for Pioli, though. The head coach is hoping to establish a bit of calm after the opening of the investigation by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office into the ownership of the club, with the search by the Guardia di Finanza of the company’s headquarters.

CEO Giorgio Furlani and his predecessor Ivan Gazidis are in the register of suspects for obstructing the supervisory activity of the FIGC as per the paper, and Pioli must create a bubble around the team to ensure there are no distractions.

Pioli has two doubts himself, but they concern the line-up. One is in defence where the only players sure of a starting spot are Fikayo Tomori in the middle and Theo Hernandez on the left.

On the right there is a battle between Davide Calabria and Alessandro Florenzi, then competing for a place from the first minute are Malick Thiaw and Matteo Gabbia.

Compared to the European trip to Prague, Pioli will instead change both midfielders: Yunus Musah and Yacine Adli out and Tijjani Reijnders and Ismael Bennacer in.
