Tuttosport: PSG and West Ham duo on Milan’s six-man list of striker targets

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan need a new striker during the summer transfer window and they have targeted Gianluca Scamacca, according to a report.

Olivier Giroud will turn 37 in September and cannot be relied upon as much as he has been this season, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic might retire plus Divock Origi and Ante Rebic have failed to live up to expectations.

Therefore, it will be essential for the club to find the right profile for the attacking department, and today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) talks about the potential list that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have.

There are some profiles in Ligue 1 that appeal, such as Lois Openda of RC Lens, Folarin Balogun of Stade Reims (owned by Arsenal) and Hugo Ekitiké of Paris Saint-Germain. Marko Arnautovic of Bologna is also being considered, but he is 34.

Mateo Retegui of Tigre is being evaluated, while Gianluca Scamacca’s name has not gone away either. West Ham spent €36m plus bonuses to sign him from Sassuolo but he has only 8 goals in 27 games, 16 of which were starts.

His season ended early due to a meniscus injury to his right knee which forced him to undergo surgery, but he could return to Italy on loan with option to buy for around €20-25m.

  1. Scamacca on loan with an option to buy at $25m, is the sort of dumb luck you don’t second guess.

Putting aside the debate about the hype, the objective range of attributes he has is rivalled by very few players.

He has the physical presence to lead the attack. He also has the ability to bomb goals from nothing (unlike Giroud who essentially a giant goal poacher).

    1. Yes. Scamacca (loan + option to buy) challenging Giroud for the #9 spot and Arnautovic as the cheap backup-option. That should get us through next season or two. Then it’s time to bring back Colombo.

Scamacca on loan would leave money for the RW & #10 as those two are the positions most lacking. Although #10 isn’t as big of an issue if we got creativity in midfield and decide to go “all in” with CDK next season as #10.

      1. Only scamacca from that article available on loan with option to buy, AC Milan can save money for striker to buy SMS that balance on defend & atack for CMF /AMF or RW that can crossing & service striker with asist. But first we need to secure CL spot

      2. That’s the basic point. It just so happens to coincide with something I really want to see anyway, Scamacca as an 8 to 10 year player in a Milan shirt.

He is so overwhelming the best option because of what he can do but also, and more importantly for a side that needs a minimum 3 starting players with a limited budget, the circumstances which seemingly enable us to get him without investing the sum of money it would cost for 16 Serie A goals next season (to keep us in top 4 contention).

Otherwise, I don’t see ‘it’ in Colombo, personally. He’s on the small side and not quick. How does he impact a game against Inter tonight? He is maybe someone to play off the bench. I suspect his future is a Serie A journeyman.

CDK worries me. All Milan precedents indicate he is at least 2 seasons from being able to run the show at 10. There are many reasons to think that is no his go. It has never been, so why now? I’d like to at least try him forward but if that’s not an option, sell him for anything north of $20m. Write off the loss and use the money to buy players for next season.

Milan cannot live in the warming glow of the Scudetto last season. The competition has improved. It’s not much good pointing to the head to head with the top 5 or 6 if we can’t score against the rest of the teams to bank the points to finish top 4.

Juventus has a powerhouse squad. Inter is not far behind. Napoli may lose its points of difference but, if it does it, will have the money to replace them and improve. Lazio has talent that runs deep. Roma is being linked to good players.

Our squad is not clearly a top 4 squad. If Fiorentina found a 15 goal striker it would be very difficult to separate us from it and the Romans. We could conceivably be the 7th best squad.

        1. “Our squad is not clearly a top 4 squad. ”

That has become too obvious this season. Why we’re still in the competition for TOP4 is due to poor performances by far better teams.

Just like Pioli had said before the yesterday’s match: “Milan don’t have a great team.” That understatement of the year.

Milan lacks creativity and physicality. Just look how easily 90% of our players are pushed aside in every battle. Diaz is the best example but definitely not the only one. Get some muscles (like e.g. Udinese – those guys aren’t pushed off the ball that easily). Even everyone on Inter’s midfield pushed Milan players off the ball like they were 9-year-olds. It’s like taking a candy from a baby. Get some GRINTA FFS.

  2. None of these guys are coming lol
Retegui is the worst hype I’ve seen in football in a long time. Scores one goal from obscurity and suddenly linked to big clubs smh lol

  3. Here is a list of 5 players who will be without contract in June:

    Evan Ndicka, CB, 23
    Macus Thuram, CF, 25
    Dauchi Kamada, CAM, 26
    Youri Tielemans, CM, 26
    Marco Asensio, RW, 27

Do we really need to invest a lot of money or do we need smart signings?

I see Tielemans as Bennacers perfect replacement.

Kamada could compete with CDK for the CAM position. I don’t think Milan will invest more than 15 mio for Diaz.

Thuram should be our main striker, he is 192 cm and scores goals and he is French (quick adoption to the squad with so many french speaking team mates)

Ndicka, Thiaw and Tomori could be our main CBs with Kjaer & Gabbia as backups) I dont see kalulu as CB, he and Calabria should compete for the RB role

Asensio is the RW Maldini wanted for a long time, he could solve out RW problems. Alexis and Messias can compete for the backup position.

    1. Personally i wouldnt mind your suggestions but i doubt it would just be as simple as signing them for free. There will be a lot of clubs trying to highjack these deals and propably also several teams that can offer far better salaries and sign on fees and bonuses than we are able to do but i think we should at least make a try and especially for nidcka, thielemans and thuram. Assensio propably will renew with real madrid so doubt that there will be an opportunity there,

      1. Thuram is imposible for AC Milan , many source mention he asking 7m euro nett salary + signing fee as free transfer, our salary cap for new player only 4m euro nett. But we can afford kamada & ndicka in salary term ( if no competition from rich club of course).

        1. I wouldnt expect it possible signing him either as i also indicated in my post but i hadnt heard any speciffic demands from him besides of that he would take his time to decide wherever he would want to go as chelsea had already to get him in january and gladbach was interested in selling but the player refused.
Im not really convinced that we will be able to sign ndicka either but nevertheless i would make an attamt on both of them but i certainly would linger too long for an answer.
I think ndicka will either end up in bayern, psg, barca or an epl club.
Kamada propably is the onely one we can get fairly easily.

    2. Free don’t mean we can afford them lol. Also it’s not like other clubs don’t know these players are free too. We don’t have some magic wand that guarantees those players want us and us signing them before other teams

    3. Those are some great free options that would fit nicely in Milan. We should really try to get them all. But if we even get 3 of those players for free, that would still be great job.

    4. I agree in principle that the squad can be strengthened this way.

But, you’d think all those players take their pick of a side playing CL next season and/or money we won’t offer.

Our thing will need to be built in Italy. It can and will probably be finished elsewhere but we’re going to need to be the big club in the only place we are a big club at the moment, which is Italy.

  4. Worst case AC Milan ended with striker giroud, origoat& arnautovic next season due to no budget from CL . 2 old striker and 1 trash striker king origoat

  5. Scamacca i think would fit very well.
Still think Milan should try very hard for Thuram tho.Moussa Dembele 2. Gotta work the free market

  6. SCAMACCA will be a failure for sure. Scores a spectacular once a while, thats it.
But, First thing to do is hire a coach who trains us to play good passing and creative game. Otherwise doesn’t matter whom we buy, inconsistency is the result.

  7. Scamacca is overrated IMO and for 35M it’s a pass. Also agree with @Martin that just because a player is free doesn’t mean they want to sign for us or we can afford their wages. For example, N’Dicka would be great on a free but Liverpool are after him as well and if we are restricted by a wage cap of say 3M and Liverpool offer 5M – guess what – he’s going to Liverpool lol. It’s just math.

    1. Scamacca just loan with option to buy 20-25m euro. If he flop, send him back to westham,if he score many goal just activate buy option . With loan striker y ou can save budget to find quality RW that can crossing & service asist for striker

  8. Milan need
    1.frimino liverpool
    2.kulusevski spur
    3.kessie barca
    4.elmas napoli
    5beto udinese
    Milan need to discard
    1.diaz
    2.messiah
    3.origi
    4.giroud
    5.ballo tore
