Tuttosport: Why Cardinale will not currently exclude building stadium with Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale made some interesting declarations regarding the new stadium project, making it clear that no avenue is closed at the moment.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) recall this morning, there were some intriguing words from Cardinale regarding the state of play as Milan look to build their own stadium amid Mayor Sala’s San Siro redevelopment plea.

“I am ready to build Milan’s stadium on my own, however I am also open to considering other options, without excluding a potential collaboration with Inter,” he said.

Cardinale’s comments to Calcio e Finanza caused a stir because to many it seemed like a possible step backwards, i.e. going from building a home for just Milan to reopening the shared stadium idea.

The paper explains that as much as Milan want to build the stadium on the land in the San Francesco area that it has purchased, it is right and legitimate not to preclude any option if the progress of the works, for any reason, may suffer such a collapse as to lead to the abandonment of the project.

To date, this scenario has not yet emerged, but it is essential to keep all possible channels active until ground is broken in San Donato.

This is why even Scaroni was not trenchant towards Beppe Sala during the last meeting with the Council which took place on Thursday together with the Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello.
