Tuttosport: World Cup a double-edged sword for Milan in Leao renewal talks

Rafael Leao’s contract with AC Milan will expire in 2024 and talks are currently ongoing to extend that deal. However, it’s proving to be quite difficult and the World Cup also plays a big role in it.

Leao has, of course, been called up by Portugal for the upcoming World Cup tournament in Qatar and he could be a key player for the team. While it’s great advertisement for Milan, it won’t exactly make the renewal talks easier.

As reported by Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it), the World Cup is a double-edged sword for the Rossoneri as very good performances would put Jorge Mendes in the driver’s seat in the negotiations. However, they could also guarantee Milan a large sale sum.

In short, while the World Cup could make a renewal even more complicated, it could also help Milan generate as much as possible from a sale. What’s clear is that the Rossoneri won’t wait until the contract expires, as they did with Donnarumma and Kessie.

    1. One scenario is that then his form drops even lower and Milan will definitely NOT be paying him 8-10M€/y. Then we’re lucky to get 50M€ in summer.

  1. Too much drama. Same as before. I love Leao. He is first in line in attack. But even without him, Milan is Milan. So please, no more players walk away cashless. Management must be more assertive in applying the offer. The late Raiola has taught us the pain of losing a player who leaves freely. So there is no need to learn from Mendes anymore. Milan had already graduated from education on the maneuvers of these “super agents”.

  2. In my opinion after 2 Chelsea games, premier League clubs won’t splash money easily. But agent and Leao Will be difficult because they only need to wait one more year, and every club can splash a lot of money for Leao contract and agent commision. Still Milan should risk this time to save investment, and extend contract, and if we get bed results in this year Serie a or in 2 years, player Still can be sold for half price, which is money return. Also club can save money by bying young and cheap players in next 2 years.

  3. I dont give a f*ck how milan lose money on expired contract. I only care about trophy. You can leave for free if you give us second star. Who cares about finance, healthy club balance doesn’t give you a trophy. if we sold kessie before he left for free, maybe merda got second star first.
