What a difference a few days makes. After leaving the field to some jeers during the 1-0 win over Sassuolo on December 30, Rafael Leao got the reception of a hero in last night’s game against Cagliari.
The final flourish in the 4-1 victory came from Leao as his pick-the-ball-up-cut-inside-and-shoot approach finally worked. He got in isolation with his man down the left, striding into the box and finding the far corner with a precise low shot.
It was the perfect tonic for the winger after some tough recent outings in which he was not able to showcase his true abilities. He is on his way back from a month out injured yes, but consistent production is expected from a player like him.
After he came on the Curva Sud chanted in support of the Portuguese international, and at full-time he went over to thank them, patting his heart and applauding the supporters.
