GdS: ‘Do not panic’ – what Allegri did at Milanello to start post-Udinese recovery

Collapsing at this stage of the season is something AC Milan cannot afford, and Massimiliano Allegri stressed this to his squad.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report that Allegri’s message to the team is simple: do not panic. Milan met yesterday for the first time since the painful defeat against Udinese on Saturday at San Siro, one that jeopardised qualification for next season’s Champions League.

A top four finish was key objective set by the coach and club since the beginning of the season. Allegri, however, wanted to insulate his team from doubts and criticism. The Rossoneri remain three points ahead of fourth-place Juventus and five ahead of fifth-place Como.

In a speech before the video analysis of the match against the Zebre, the coach nevertheless urged the team to forget about the numbers and tables and focus solely on the next match in Verona (Sunday at 15:00 CEST).

The Livorno-born manager knows this is a difficult time, but he believes he has the right experience and, above all, the right men to manage it. “We’re the same team that was second in the table until two weeks ago and beat Inter twice. Now we’re going back to doing what we know how to do,” Allegri said.

Rediscovering solidity

What the 2025-26 Milan team has shown it can do for long stretches of the season is stay united, work as a team, and deliver consistent performances. These are characteristics that Max will work on this week (today a double session), returning to a 3-5-2 and abandoning the 4-3-3.

Yesterday, Allegri analysed some phases of the match against Udinese to understand and correct errors. The excessive distance between the departments in certain phases of the match was particularly under scrutiny, as the team seemed disconnected and suffered from transitions.

Igli Tare was present at Milanello, as usual. The Rossoneri director didn’t give a speech, but he did chat with a few players. CEO Giorgio Furlani, who was away at the Lega Serie A meeting yesterday, was absent. However, he is expected to meet at the training centre in the coming days.

The management, coaching staff and players are all pulling together, because the season will be decided in the coming weeks and the Champions League mission is one they can’t afford to fail.

Everyone knows this, and it’s no coincidence that Allegri has emphasised it at virtually every press conference: returning to Europe’s most important tournament is crucial for Milan’s future, between budgetary constraints and sporting ambitions.

  1. Aks for the bank, Max. Threaten to leave. At best, you get what you need. At worst you leave, take the Italy job and leave RedBird looking like !d!ots again.

    1. So you want Milan to be destabilized just so you can prove that Redbird are horrible owners?

What the heck is wrong with you?
Are you even a fan of this club?
