Theo Hernandez could well be heading into his final few months with AC Milan, as his performance levels continue to be a shadow of his former self.
According to Calciomercato.com, negotiations for Theo’s renewal are struggling to accelerate. The doubts about the French full-back’s future arise from questionable on-field behaviour (red cards, the cooling break incident and more) plus performances that are clearly below his usual high standards.
Even against Lecce, we saw some flashes of the real Theo with the assists for the two disallowed goals, but it was certainly not a completely sufficient performance, especially in the defensive phase where he struggled on both goals.
The tension between the parties seems to be becoming increasingly palpable, because while there is no advancement in renewal talks it has become apparent that Milan are looking at his replacement. Maxim De Cuyper of Club Brugge – worth around €22-25m – is the main name in this regard.
Furthermore, there is a piece of news that has just arrived in the last few hours. As reported by Stefano Donati of TeleLombardia, Theo and Paolo Maldini had a long coffee together yesterday afternoon.
It was a friendly meeting between two people who have kept in touch after the successul years spent together at Milan, culminating with the Scudetto under the management of head coach Stefano Pioli. It was a period of joy and glory, a moment that stands in stark contrast to the current state of affairs.
Now, the feeling is that the summer could mark a farewell for the left-back, who will be 12 months from the expiry of his deal in June. That will probably force the Diavolo to accept €25-30m for his sale, but the final verdict as always will come on the pitch.
Hopefully, Maldini can give him some advice to help him get back in form.
Theo is expected to leave on a free transfer. Let’s watch on.
Won’t happen, will be sold this summer for 35-40 millions
Remember both parties have to agree to the sale.
I see him waiting a year and signing a big contract with PSG.
In that case the club could just tell him theyre not gonna even include him in the squad and he’d be getting no gametime and spending a whole year not playing. I doubt any big team wouldn’t hesitate on that
Who would pay that much with his regressed form?
I think we would be foolish to let Theo or Leao go. We can afford to let Maignan go because his position is easier to fill. Granted we won’t find a better keeper with the ball at his feet, but we can certainly find on par shot stoppers. I think we would regret letting the other two go in the same way we regret letting Tonali go.
This all depends on coach and his motivation + tactics… of course relationships with players… with Pioli Theo was good, Leao last season was not the best but still okey. If there come some quality coach, then there is a chance they both stay.. with Leao it’s easier because he has contract until 2028. But with Theo they need to fing some harmony
You’d be willing to pay him 7-8M€ for the performances he has putting out for over a year now? Make him the highest paid player in the squad. Honestly? Because that’s what it takes to keep him.
*has been
Only Theo was able to play 5years without a backup. Milan should hire 2players not just 1 for his replacement
Why did we play Theo for years without having a back up. This is where our issues started springing up.
If Furlani choose d amico as DS and he bring gasperini as new coach then theo will rising again with 352 but club must sell leao & chukwu But if still sergio for next season with 4231 better sell theo and buy LB that can defense to cover leao. 4231 that pioli using theo – leao success because he sacrifice right side put calabria & saladmaker as RB & RW to play defensive also he is putting kessie as AMF in paper but in field kessie play as extra CB to cover if theo atacking. Without calabria ,kessie& salad, the team losing balance in 4231 . Fonseca know this and try putting yunus musah as RW to help pressing & defense but emerson are too weak in defense compared with calabria, thats why fonseca asking theo- leao help pressing & defense but the two star player already enjoy with pioli style and dont want to change their playstyle. Walker coming and replace emerson but already too late for fonseca. Now sergio inherit the same problem with fonseca ( team balancing) and he looks like fail to solve that problem , fofana cannot work alone in midfield while bondo & yunus musah are not versatile like krunic to help defense
Keep theo for another 3 or 4 years when Milan can become more sustainable project with new left back.
This entirely depends on if he shows any desire to play good again. In his form the past 2 years, he has no right to demand a starting spot if someone new was brought in. He’s been the weakest link on the pitch not named emerson. If he can’t even pull his own weight, much less play at a world class level, then he won’t paid like he’s world class here. Simple as that. You won’t get 8mil a season playing like your Diego Laxalt…tbh that’s offensive to laxalt cuz even he was putting in more effort than this
