AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta was seen as heavily controversial by Paulo Fonseca and today, the conversation in the VAR room after Charles De Ketelaere’s opener has been revealed.
Friday’s defeat was damaging across all fronts. Milan are out of the title race – if they were not already, faith in Fonseca dropped once again due to his system confusing supporters, and then his own reputation (and bank account probably) suffered a hit due to his post-match interview.
After making the management aware of what was about to occur, the Portuguese head coach headed to speak to the media and unloaded a rant about the officiating of the fixture (as well as some others), due to the decision to not call De Ketelaere’s goal a foul.
Former referees determined that the goal maybe should have been ruled out, but today, Milan News published a piece about what the VAR room said about the goal and it will probably frustrate Fonseca as well as Rossoneri fans.
“It’s all regular, it’s absolutely nothing. He jumps first, he jumps absolutely early. Check completed, regular goal.”
I can understand if they say it wasn’t a foul on CDK, but the referees should at least acknowledge a free kick should never have been awarded that led to the goal. There was absolutely no way that was a foul by Musah on Lookman. If they called that foul on Musah, than they have to call the foul on CDK.
The combination of of those two calls were absolutely atrocious and if the referees do not take responsibility for such inconsistent and terrible officiating, they should be suspended for determining the outcome of the game on purpose.
In the picture of the goal you published, May you tell me where is the left knee of DeKetelare? Tel me also where the right hand is, please. Even if DeKetelare jumped before Theo, he cannot hit him with his knee. He cannot rest his right hand On-Theo’s shoulder, impeding him from jumping.
These facts are very clear on your picture I wonder how the VAR did not notice such an infringement,
