AC Milan are continuing to negotiate with Rafael Leao and his entourage over a renewal and it seems that there is still confidence, a report claims.
La Gazzetta dello Sport recall how Paolo Maldini gave a little hint before the Napoli game regarding Leao’s renewal, as he stated: “Confidence in Leao’s renewal is growing, we are on the same path.”
Despite this, there are still a lot of question marks such as when the parties will meet to talk again, how much the winger wants in terms of salary to extend and how much the compensation owed to Sporting CP affects things.
Despite Maldini’s words, there have been no significant steps forward recently, even if the main issue remains the fine owed to Sporting CP for having terminated his contract in 2018.
The Rossoneri management do not believe they should pay anything towards it given they are not involved, while in recent days Record reported that Lille will play the €20.3m owed, which Leao ‘liked’ on Twitter.
Leao’s entourage are asking for a figure of around €7-7.5m net per season to renew while Milan’s most recent offer was €6.5m, so an agreement could be found at €7m.
The solution of a bridge renewal cannot be excluded, while agent Jorge Mendes welcomes the possibility of his client leaving on a free transfer. Finally there is the will of the player: Leao loves Milan, he is happy there and knows he is loved by the fans.
