Santiago Gimenez has undergone surgery to fix his ankle issue, and he is set for an extended period on the sidelines.
Corriere dello Sport confirms that Gimenez – after a series of problems – has had an operation on his troublesome ankle. Milan confirmed this in a statement posted on their official website just before the Supercoppa Italiana game against Napoli.
“Santiago Gimenez underwent arthroscopic cleaning of his right ankle today in Amsterdam. The operation, performed by Professor Gino Kerkhoffs in the presence of Milan’s medical staff, was a complete success. At the end of the expected week of recovery, Santiago will return to Italy to continue his rehabilitation program.”
How long out?
The Mexican striker, who joined Milan a year ago, was plagued by ankle pain for weeks. The aim of going under the knife is to permanently eliminate the problem and to have a strong return to form for the second half of the season, without the risk of a relapse.
Gimenez’s last match for Milan was on October 28th, against Atalanta. It’s expected to be at least a couple of months before he’ll be back on the pitch, with full recovery expected around the end of February, if all goes to plan.

About as useful as Origi
Divock will be our dream Jan turnaround story, can’t wait to see the goals flooding in
It’s hard to be useful when you are having a chronic ankle problem and chronic pain. It affects the ability to control the ball in first touch, and the ability to accurately finish shots on target, which are the two shortcomings people have been blaming Santi for; are they true shortcomings, or are they the consequences of a physical problem he sacrificed himself with, playing for weeks with chronic pain?
I think we are underestimating Santi Gimenez. When fully healthy, he’s been a very good player elsewhere, and it is entirely conceivable that he will still prove his worth for Milan. He is hardworking and he opens spaces for companions. That shows some good football IQ. The problem is, he was unable to execute, if his ankle wasn’t good. Hopefully after this surgery and rehab, we will see the real Gimenez and he will be useful.
Origi’s problems were not of a surgical nature. He is just a very bad player and a very unethical player who milked Milan out of a high salary despite not playing; prolonged vacation living in one of the best European cities like a young millionaire, while the club that paid his salary was left with nothing. That’s NOT Gimenez who is an ethical and honest guy.
Comparing the two is an insult to Santi Gimenez.
Gimenez did have a decent “goals per minutes” ratio last season. That was more “the real Gimenez” than the one with the fcked up ankle this season.
Exactly
Gimenez is by far the flop of the season. He just isn’t good enough!
