After saying no to Al-Hilal, Theo Hernandez seemed to be one step away from Atletico Madrid in recent days, but things have stalled.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recalls how Milan and Al-Hilal had reached an agreement over a €30m+ deal for Theo, but the player himself decided he did not want to go to Saudi Arabia.

At a certain point Atletico interrupted the dialogue with the Rossoneri, but when the white smoke seemed very close it did not arrive. Yesterday, Manuel Garcia Quilon – the agent of the full-back – re-established contact with Los Colchoneros to try to reach an agreement.
The risk of being in the stands
Theo is now in a rather uncomfortable position at the Rossoneri because, unlike Mike Maignan who will remain a starter even though his contract expires in 2026, he is not part of Milan’s project.
The management hope to soon receive news from Madrid or from the defender’s agent, who is currently only considering the path that leads to Atletico.
Officially the deal fell through because the two clubs could not reach an economic agreement, but it seems that fans are behind the Spaniards’ change of heart, as they do not want Theo back due to his move to Real Madrid in 2017.
Without Atleti relaunching, the risk is that of heading towards an arm wrestling until the end of the summer window. Milan could decide not to use him in the summer friendlies, so as to make the player understand that he is not really part of the plans at all.
Staying at all costs, sitting on the bench or in the stands in the season leading up to the World Cup, would absolutely not be convenient for the Frenchman. Milan, for their part, instead wants to avoid losing him for free in a year, so a sale makes sense for everyone.

Make sit down with the management and accepted 4-5ml while he was crucial guy but we didn’t want to go ahead that deal but theo never wanted to sit down milan management and talk about contract unless 8-9ml is on the table while he was rubbish for the Last two years so they are different cases make got angry and feels we don’t want him anymore but theo dragged us out to walk free tomorrow
Because Theo is the ring leader, he has huge influence on Leao, Maignan and Calabria.
I think the trauma from childhood without his father is affecting the man Theo.
Excellent footballer but with a seriously flawed character.
Mike worked hard last season. He gave his all. He was the captain and generally had a good attitude.
Theo refused to run. He let lower league Serie A attackers run by him while he jogged. Many goals on the left side, were on him. He went out partying the night before games even when asked not to. He INTENTIONALLY played poorly to hurt Milan knowing Milan really did not have an ideal replacement for him.
I hope Theo sits on the bench all season. He’ll lose his France spot too, right before the WC.
Fitting. Theo went from being my favorite AC Milan player to hated. Why? His attitude. He also gained weight this season, slowing him down. Too much partying which was caught on camera.
I hope its only a ploy to move him along this summer…putting pressure on his agent to find him a club with the right economic conditions. If the player has checked out there is no point in keeping him around when getting a player for the new project is the sensible solution. I guess Milan has burnt there fingers in the past (Kessie, Donna, Calha) hence the urgency to get him off the books. With Mike one can understand his disgruntled state…the contract was agreed upon and then Milan made a u turn and reduce the offer. Rightly or wrongly he has reason not to feel the trust of management. Milan screwed up both these negotiations and should shoulder the blame for this situation as well as players wanting to jump ship after such a poor season. The blame cuts both ways.
Did the same with Origi. Milan is still paying him.
Origi stopped being a footballer the moment he arrived at Milan.
Maldini’s worst mistake in my opinion. At least CDK was sellable. Divock was and is still a disaster we have to pay for until 2026.

Yeah and If he accept the offer from Al Hilal Guys Like you would say all that matters for him is Money. Its a shame how this club treats Theo. In His best years His salary was a Joke If you compare with Alphonso Davies or other guys
I never complained about any player that left milan whether for free or sold its true so many people are calling names former players but i never disappointed player the way i disappointed theo I’m milan fan since 1996

Words from Spain is that the Atlètico fans want to protest against his signing, they don’t want him because of his disruptive attitude and also for the way he left them and switched to Real Madrid, they consider him a traitor.
Theo is the one pushing for the deal, Atlètico is sceptical, they don’t really need him, Galan has been good for them.
He treated Atletico exactly the same way he acted here. Now he wants to go back. This guy is a child, the pink hair says it all. His brother is a much better professional than he’s ever been.

We still need left back. If they don’t succeed sell him, I think management make mistake by not using him for this last season.
Money for new left back could be recouped in next season and they could focus on fixing squad in all other positions.
So maignan sell or extended. Theo goes for free next year. And problem solved.

Seems management thinks it will get Al-Hilal money from every club that approaches for him. No wonder why other clubs are probably put off by this. He’s in his final year contract and will probably have better negotiating power on wages next year.
