CM: Why Theo Hernandez is not closing the door to Man Utd despite Milan renewal talks

Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Theo Hernandez and he has not instantly rebuffed the idea, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, Hernandez’s future at Milan is now more than ever ‘a very important puzzle to unravel’. The issue related to his contract, which expires on 30 June 2026, requires an acceleration in the decision-making from the directors.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been linked in the past few months but now the interest of another European big club has emerged: Manchester United. The Red Devils are a club with a large wallet and the ability to offer Theo a higher salary than the one he gets at Milan.

The Swiss version of Sky Sports reported that Omar Berrada – the United CEO and a right-hand man to the owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe – has been given the mandate to find a new left-back. Alphonso Davies and Theo are the two top priorities.

Milan are aware of this and are continuing to push along with a difficult negotiation to renew his deal. Geoffrey Moncada in his most recent interview declared: “We started negotiations two months ago. I can say that we are in a good position. Everyone is really happy, I haven’t seen anyone who wants to leave.”

The distance between the will and the reality is entirely economic: Theo who would like to get the same salary as Rafael Leao (€7m net per season, including bonuses) while the Rossoneri only want to offer him a small pay rise from his current €4.5m per year.

For this reason the left-back is not closing the door to a farewell, which will encourage the Premier League side. What Milan wants to avoid is dragging out this negotiation for too long, because arriving at next summer without anything signed would mean the clock ticking down to 12 months.

  1. Theo should be the highest paid player in the team is we go by top level and importance. He will not be motivated if other teams offer twice of what Milan does. At least same we Leao, otherwise it’s an insult and explains why he dropped from recently

    1. If we go by top level, importance and consistency. Reijnders should be the best paid IMO.
Theo has not been consistent enough to warrant 7mill a year. He needs to step up and show that he deserves the raise he reportedly is asking for.
We need to be more cynical, and don’t get too attached to players.

      1. Exactly. If his performance is tied to his happy he is with his salary, he is not a professional. The performances must precede the salary rise, not the other way around.

      2. Reijnders had like 5 great games mainly against small teams, while Theo has been great for years. He has a long way to go to be in Theo position.

        1. Reijnders played well in the derby and against Real Madrid, scoring against the later in a brilliant effort, so to say he only does well against small teams is nonsensical.
Theo is arguably our worst player since the beginning of the season performance wise and even his behaviour are unwhorthy of a team leader (being lazy, sulking on the sidlines and the Fiorentina fiasco where he stole a penalty and got himself red-carded for no reasons).
I’m not against giving him a raise, but if he wants a substantial raise he needs to earn it and right now he doesn’t deserve to be the highest paid player in the team, that title belongs to Pulisic.

          1. Nah nah bro let’s not do that. Reinjders has been having a good season so far no lies there. But to say he’s somehow gotten over the hump due two games against two big teams when he’s gone missing whole of last season against big teams and Theo has been doing great for like 4 whole years now is a bit of a stretch.
Theo deserves a raise regardless of his current form. Maybe that’s one of the reasons his form is off….you put in work for 4 years and your boss isn’t willing to reward you? He’s put in the work, is resilient / not injury prone and is one of the best left backs in the world. And he’s still on track to produce like in other seasons.

          2. @IKWYDLS:
You make a point. Theo produced too much over the last few seasons for it to be ignored because of this current season.
I just don’t think he’s earned the 8M€ or 9M€ some medias claimed he asked for.
IMO he should settle for something around 6-7M€ per year.

          3. Ok thats two good games against big teams out of which one was in terrible form (Real). But anyway, compare that with Theo who has played great against all kinds of teams for years.

          4. @Giga94 I’m not fully aware of what he’s asking but I do know he should be earning more. Especially in a relative sense…him, Puli and Leao should be among the higher compensated players in the team

      3. If we go by top level, importance and consistency, PULISIC should be the best paid, IMO. Anyway, I think Theo asking for the same as Leao is not illogical. He hasn’t had a great season so far, but we should consider how he started every game that he could last season, played in the Euros and starts practically every game this season, because our dolt managers have not brought in a proper backup in practically the entire time we’ve had Theo. Then, contract negotiations also seem to have a negative effect on a player’s morale. We saw this with Donnarumma, whose form dipped a bit during the talks to extend his contract (which became his final contract) and with Leao during talks for his current contract. Theo is objectively considered one of the top 5 LBs in Europe, with RM and Bayern interested. Why isn’t this a player that does not deserve to be near the top of the salary chart? Only this club would say “sorry, we’re giving you 6M” while other top clubs like RM, Bayern and United line up and say we’ll give you 8M or more. Give him his 7M and extend him to 2030 already. We won’t have to think of our starting LB for the foreseable future. If Theo goes, think about the negative possibilities given this management’s track record. Do you want to see the “Royal of the left” brought in as his replacement?

        1. They did bring in one decent backup.

Sold him to the Netherlands for less than a million with no return clause.

Now he’s probably undervalued on Transfermarkt as €20M and verging on being a top 10 LB in world football.

At least if we need to go hunting in the off-season there should be a couple of very high quality players near the bottom of the EPL worth considering, someone like Ait Nouri or Leif Davis will end up being in a relegated side.

          1. Yeah, that situation was frustrating, but the player did want to start. Who do you start a 19 year old when you have Theo? That’s the problem with having two high quality young players in the same position. Can’t play them both. Eventually, one will want to leave in search of minutes. It was a Sophie’s Choice.

  2. Milan should sell him. He has the worse attitude and behavior in the team. Theo has the most red cards for a defender and the majority of his red cards were for arguing with the referee.

If any player that should be sold it’s Theo.

  3. Theo obviously needs to improve his performances and attitude in order to be the joint top paid player on the team. He’s not even a great defender when he’s on form let alone off it.

  4. Theo is among top 3 lb in the world.

Some are claiming Reijnders and pulisic should have right to ask than Theo.

Pulisic, Reijnders are not even top30 midfielders, attckers in the world 😂😂😂😂

That speaks a big volume in your arguments.
Theo was not at his best at the moment, but remember he was one of the best in the world in last 4years for club and country.

Milan just simply sell, if he is not why there is a negotiation. Our so called sporting director can bring a world class left back for 4m salary, maybe he can even bring younger than Theo🤣

      1. Pulisic yes.
But Reijnders no. If you were to draw up a top 10,where would you put Reijnders.

Yall need to calm down on Reijnders hype. He has recently found a great run of form, and I sincerely and desperately hope he continues it through. But stop acting like he has been a bomber.

It’s this same forum someone compared Reijnders to be the next coming of Seedorf🤦‍♂️. Yall need to calm down.

Top 10 and Reijnders in the same sentence, with so many performing midfielders/playmaker right now.

  5. 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂
Are you people really serious. Theo hernandez. The same Theo that has been faithful and consistent and been a top performer at Milan for years.
That same Theo does not deserve to be joint highest earner??

Like I don’t understand is this sempre Milan or the twilight zone. Putting Reijnders that just recently had a resurgence of form, and Pulisic over Theo. Theo that has been faithful to Milan all these time. Not only that one of the best LB in world football.

Are some of you high or something. Using this season to judge whether Theo deserves a raise or not. And saying Milan should sell Theo and he is easily replaceable. Ooo he is easily replaced and yet the management has not done so, or he is easily replaced and this management has shown a good track record of buying ready made talent for the now, rather than cheap alternatives that might not come through.

Humans are really ingrates. Now Theo is toxic. But when he faithfully held the left position and has been instrumental in many of Milan wins, he was not toxic.

One cannot log into this forum without seeing the daily dose of nonsense been spewed here.

    😂🤣😂🤣🙄😒🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️
